We're not allowed to sell a beer through Consignment at the same time it's available at retail. Rochefort 8 is part of the Winter Warmer promo and the price will be quite a bit better than what we would normally offer so when it hits the stores (in about a week or so) grab as much as you can as we'll be out there buying up stock for our licensee customers.
I'm confused, you imported the beer (for the LCBO), but you're planning to buy it back (off the LCBO shelves)?esprit wrote:We're not allowed to sell a beer through Consignment at the same time it's available at retail. ...
The Rochefort 8 was delayed a bit because it seems I was in a coma when I sent the supplier the strip label for the bottle and failed to put "Product of Belgium" on the label. The LCBO Quality Assurance Dept. has been kind enough to overlook this small error and they have released the order which should start hitting stores in about a weeks time. I should warn everyone that Esprit will be out there aggressively buying stock of all of our Winter Warmers for licensees so we suggest you get out quickly and buy whatever you will as we'll clean out a lot of stores ourselves.
Anyone else confused by this Esprit/consignment thing?
I am. I thought the retail LCBO was for consumers. But maybe that's the assine rules that has to be followed.Responsible Drinker wrote:I'm confused, you imported the beer (for the LCBO), but you're planning to buy it back (off the LCBO shelves)?

Peter has previously lamented about the public's shitty buying patterns yet when stuff like this is done, how is the public supposed to get some of these fine beers? Not that I think I'd be getting any of these specific ones...
lister
I don't think it's confusing. Peter can only list and sell what the LCBO doesn't. Bars and restos have to buy what the LCBO sells via the LCBO, and whatever Peter lists he can sell directly.
So Peter has to put all the Rochefort 8 stock through the retail stores, so he and BeerBistro etc. have the same access to it we do.
Peter is at least giving fair warning some Rochefort 8 will get cleaned out soon, so we have a chance to buy big, now... he and the others will buy up lots of it fairly soon, because it's preferable to buy a quantity of stock together when fresh rather than searching around for scattered bottles months on. Hey, these guys have a life too.
That about right?

Is that actually out there yet? I had a look at my local LCBO that I have been very pleased with in the past (Applewood Plaza) and the specialty beer section looked like a tornado had touched down. I picked up some Dogfish Chicory Stout (last two bottles) and some Saison Dupont but no Rochefort and little else.
Esprit, am I wasting my time looking again?
Mind you as I type I'm thinking Tuesday is a delivery day over there...
