Just surfing around and picked this off Volo website:
In their Food & Wine section, Toronto Life magazine has released a list of Toronto's best beer spots. It's well worth a look.

Also, anyone been to Allen's? Is it any good? A co-worker told me about it, and now that I see their list, they do offer a few rarities.

Toronto Life Best Beer Menues
Funny you should mention it; we were just at Allen's Tuesday. While their website list is hopelessly out of date (I was hoping they still might have some Dublin Brewing Company stuff as they say they do, but no), their tap and bottle selection is vastly improved and carried a nice selection (nothing other than lcbo / consignment beers mind you, but it is nice to see a place doing this - taps included Dennison's and the best pint of Fullers ESB I have had in some time on this side of the Atlantic). The food was top notch as well - great Fish and Chips and burgers. Dora's next door, while no beer mecca, has cask Durham and the best pint of Fullers London Porter in the city.

It's also a great place in the summer. The back patio has some really nice shade trees, though it is busy and often difficult to get a seat. I've only been a handful of times and the food was great each visit.biegaman wrote:Also, anyone been to Allen's? Is it any good? John Maxwell (I don't know if John looks into this forum, I hope he does) who owns Allens and partly owns Dora Keough is a long-time supporter of quality beer and spirits in Toronto. Some of us here over the age of 40 will remember the Gambrinus Club, a mid-1980's club of beer devotees of which John was a devoted supporter. Allens is a first class restaurant and bar and has never flagged in its devotion to good beer (and Ontario wine I might add). The selection changes focus from time to time but top quality is always a given there. In fact if bartowel (Cass) was ever minded to organise an eve at Allens it would be a memorable one I know. We are fortunate in Toronto to have many great beer havens (that Toronto Life article is a good summary of mid-town spots) and Allens ranks right up there and certainly is no. 1 on the east side of the Don Valley for great beer especially when bracketed with Dora Keough's. Their focus on live folk music events is welcome, too.

I actually suggested a while ago that Allen's patio would be an excellent location for a local craft brewing event. In my opinion it's one of, if not the, best patios in the city. That's not to take away from the interior, though, as it's really cozy as well, especially in the dead of winter. Their beer list is thoughtful and as everyone has pointed out, the draught Fuller's ESB is killer - always fresh and always delicious. Allan's is without a doubt one of the best bars east of the DVP, and I say that as a committed east-ender. It's also one of the more underrated places, often getting passed over for other bars.
"All right, brain, I don't like you and you don't like me - so let's just do this and I'll get back to killing you with beer."
