The Bar Towel

Had this last night.

I don't know if it is just me, but I felt it was a complete sugar bomb. Like boddington's with three tablespoons of brown sugar added. Like a sweet beer smoothie.
Towards the end it was undrinkable, but I scored it a 2.5 on ratebeer because it had some aspects that I liked, creamy body being one.

Wow, I won't be getting this one again.

No need for a beer to be overly sweet unless it was intended by the addition of sugars or the use of a yeast without the attenuation needed to convert the sugars available in the wort. So this may eother intentional or the product of poor yeast choice.

Were there any fruity esters at all?

Thanks for the heads up SBG I like malt pronouned beers but I'm not fond of overt "sweetness" in a beer....even the best Honey beers are not sweet up front.

I'm off to do a 5 store circuit to get all these seasonal Brit ales and I see a session coming this Friday

Yeah it was fruity. But after having this one again a couple days ago, my findings are that for me, this one is too malt forward with a weird sweetness of brown sugar and apple juice, and I just can't get into it.

The abbot ale is very good, and even the John Bul is ok, but I'd say the wadworth is the "worst" of the new releases.

I typically keeps some Fullers London Pride on hand as I've been enjoying it a lot lately, and of the new British offerings, only the 6X was appealing to me with the John Bull the least appealing.

I 'm not much of a fan of mainstream Brit ales but this one was decent enough...fruity nose and a heavier body than expected from a 4.3% ABV. has a light burnt treacle sweetness to it.

I see the Brewer uses brown sugar in it and probably ( as Perry has said) keeps the color dark with brewer's caramel....at any rate it was far better than the Abbot ale which was about as impressive as cold weak tea.

all in all this rash of late issued Brit ales has left me cold and unimpressed...think I'll pull some dunkeler bocks from the cellar to warm up and put my taste buds to work again

This one was alright. Due to interruptions, I drank it warmer than I usual would have and found it to be quite pleasant. Not spectacular, but decent enough.
