Montreal questions

Post by Gedge »

I'm heading up to Montreal soon and I was wondering if there is a Montreal equivalent to Volo/Smokeless. I'm already aware of the various brewpubs, what I'm looking for is someplace that would serve the likes of Chimay, Rochefort, etc.

Also, is there a decent SAQ in Montreal - something approaching the Queen's Quay or Summerhill LCBO? Looking to see if a large SAQ would carry spirits different from those of the LCBO.

Although Montreal has a great number of brewpubs (and more to open in the future), it lacks in beer bars similar to Smokeless Joe, Volo, etc...

The only one in Mtl proper with a good import selection is Biere et Compagnie (http://www.bieresetcompagnie.ca) on St-Denis. Vices Versa and St-Bock have a good QC micro selection, and St-Bock also carries imports (http://www.lesaintbock.com). However, I would really recommend a visit to Dieu du Ciel, the best Brewpub in Canada, period.

If you are mobile, then go to St. hubert to Bistro des Bieres Belges (http://www.bistrobelge.com) which has the best belgian selection in the Montreal area.

For stores, most SAQs carry pretty much the same stuff...this isnt Ontario, you have to go to places like Joanette's, Peluso, Grand Duc...check out Ratebeer (http://ratebeer.com/Places/State/Cities/Montréal/61.htm)
