I missed getting any tickets at all for Volo Cask Days, and owed some friends an apology. So I had them over for dinner on Saturday night.
Later in the evening, I popped the cork of my one and only bottle of
Deus Brut des Flandres 2002 vintage.
Lovely beer. Golden colour, slight head. Sour and sweet in balance. I was also expecting it to be very thin, effevescent and "champagney", perhaps because of the bottle (and the price). But in fact it was a light-to-medium body beer.
This bottle came from Belgium as a gift on the birth of our son. Does one of the distributors here carry it?

I"m not sure if a distributor around the GTA carries it, but I do know you can get it at the Beer Bistro for a bargain basement price of $40 a bottle!

I had the pleasure of trying this at St.Veronus (peterborough) the other night.
I split it with a pal and even at 46/bottle it was had to resist buying a second one.
Beautiful head retention, very mild carbonation, buiscuity (SP?) and slightly sour.
This beer was definetly all that I hoped for and more.
Cheers to Roland for stocking this devine brew!

It's available in Vancouver at Viti beer and wine store on Symour and Smithe. I believe it's around $40 there.

UPDATE!!!
Deus isn't as expensive in Vancouver as I originally reported. Brewery Creek on Main is selling it for $25 a bottle.

A lot of thsese prices seem inflated. I just had it at Pub Iatlia for $23.00.
Anyone paying $50 should start asking questions.

Take it easy - posting in three threads is probably enough.

It is a great beer, really loved it but for the price it won't be a regular in the rotation. Wouldn't mind a few to cellar though. $30 usd at Premier Gourmet.

After I had raved so much about this beer when I first drank a bottle at the end of October, my wife ordered me a couple of bottles through the Wine Guys. (Not certain how she got their details.)
They were a Christmas gift. And although the Wine Guys were spotty about returning her calls, they did come up with the goods and (eventually) in time for Dec. 25th. They even delivered.
Not certain whether they are the exclusive importer. I have had positive experiences with both the Wine Guys and Peter at Esprit. And even though my requests are basically small orders, and they understandably take time to look after their larger customers first, I feel well served by both companies.
And my Deus is doing fine, thank you. I had a bottle just into the new year with some friends, including George E. when he was in Toronto one night. A few more are aging in the basement.
I am posting here to conclude my portion of this thread, even though it seems that I could post this message in any one of a number of threads. Good luck to those who are trying to get some.
Regards,
Uncle Bobby
