Back from the Dead?
Back from the Dead?
Did I read correctly that Rogue's Dead Guy Ale is returning?
I only had this once (in the larger 655ml bottle) and absolutley loved it! I went back for more at the LCBO any they were gonzo.
Really looking forward to it's return.

Yes, Dead Guy is one of four US craft beers that will be arriving at the LCBO in 6 packs this month. The others are Southern Tier IPA, Anchor Steam and Sam Adams Summer Ale. All except the Sam Adams are general list items which will be available year round.
Also due later this year is Dogfish Head 60 Minute IPA. Apparently, it's bee held up due to supply issues at the brewery, but the hope to have it in by late summer.

All are fantastic to have in six-packs! And I hope the Dogfish brewery is managing okay down there.GregClow wrote:Yes, Dead Guy is one of four US craft beers that will be arriving at the LCBO in 6 packs this month. The others are Southern Tier IPA, Anchor Steam...

.
Some very positive stuff happening right now. Let's give the LCBO strong vocal support wherever they are doing things RIGHT...

greg, how certain are you about the pricing on those beers? they strike me as a little low, especially the anchor steam and the southern tier IPA.GregClow wrote:Yes, Dead Guy is one of four US craft beers that will be arriving at the LCBO in 6 packs this month. Those are the prices provided by the LCBO. But you're right, they do seem a bit low, so I wouldn't be surprised if they change by time of release.tuqueboy wrote:greg, how certain are you about the pricing on those beers? they strike me as a little low, especially the anchor steam and the southern tier IPA.
Maybe not - the Brooklyn Lager is less than $12/6-pack. Maybe the new ones will be in line with that.GregClow wrote:Those are the prices provided by the LCBO. Brooklyn Lager costs a lot less to produce than either Dead Guy or 60 Minute. Both of our products are set at $13.95 (including $0.60 deposit). Wholesale prices this year jumped about 30% primarily due to hop prices, glass and transportation costs. Remember, Southern Tier is coming from just across the border...Rogue from the other side of the continent and Dogfish from Delaware where the LCBO buys nothing which means a special truck to pick up a single order from a single producer. I don't think too many people who know good beer are going to be intimidated by the price...I am surprised to see Anchor Steam re-surfacing considering they bombed their first time around.
Maybe it has something to do with the serving size? IIRC, it was in bombers last time (or maybe 500ml bottles, but that ruins the pun). Looks like they're trying 12oz bottles in six-packs now.esprit wrote:I am surprised to see Anchor Steam re-surfacing considering they bombed their first time around.

Yes, there was some wailing & gnashing of teeth on BarTowel about losing Anchor Steam last time 'round - but how often did a lot of you beer geeks drink it?
Perhaps the smaller format will inveigle the more casual consumer. It does have original & nice-looking USA-style packaging, & should not be too scary for casual lager drinkers wanting something new. A 'transitional beer' as we here often say in the Cabal of Advanced Beer Studies.
Soeaking of Steam - I do hope Stratford Common will make its rounds in Toronto bars again, that one was real nice.
