Local beer writer/expert Mirella Amato is presenting a special girls-only tasting event on the first night of Toronto's Festival of Beer (Thursday August 6th), with sessions at 5:30 and 7:00.

Here are the full details:

Looking for a fun time and a chance to hang out with the girls this summer?!

Head to Toronto's Festival of Beer at Bandshell Park, Exhibition Place and join the Girl’s Guided Beer Tour!

This is a fun, interactive, event designed to educate women about the wonderful, tasty beverage known as beer.

Toronto’s Festival of Beer is very excited about this new initiative and we hope you’ll come out on Thursday, August 6th, 2009 and experience some of the finest breweries featured at this year’s Festival. You’ll enjoy many different styles of beer, as well as learn about the history of this malted libation and the roles women have and have held in the beer industry.

Exciting news – not only is your ticket to the Girl’s Guided Beer Tour the SAME price as regular admission to the Festival on Thursday night, but in addition you will receive the following as an added bonus:

Ø Entry through the VIP gate – bypass those line-ups!

Ø Five sample tokens for you to enjoy a sample at each of the stops on the tour – sip and savour the golden beverage courtesy of the brewers participating in the tour

Ø Gain unforgettable knowledge about select breweries – learn how their brewery impacts women!

Ø Receive exclusive Girl’s Guided Beer Tour merchandise – a special treat courtesy of Toronto’s Festival of Beer!

Ø Enjoy a full pint on us in the Beerlicious VIP Lounge after the tour – a nice cold, frothy beer in a glass!

Ø Access to the VIP washrooms in the Beerlicious VIP Lounge – forget those port-a- potties!

Ø An additional 5 tokens – enjoy more beer on us after the tour!

Ø An experience of a lifetime – you and your girlfriends could be one of only 40 people to take the tour!

So, call up your friends, get together with your co-workers or clients and take part in a great summer event – The Girl’s Guided Beer Tour at the 2009 Toronto’s Festival of Beer!

Seems like a good deal. $50 for the tickets for the Girls event or $45 for the regular addmission. Comes with entrance throught VIP gate, better washrooms and an extra pint for only $5 more.

Heck I would have paid $5 to skip the giant line up to get in last year.

It is only a good deal if you get over the fact that $45 is way too much to pay for addmission in the first place though.

Actually, regular admission on Thursday is $50. Friday-Sunday is $45.

Not sure why they're charging more for Thursday this year. It made a bit of sense the last couple of years because they had a bigger band headlining the music on the Thursdays and played it up as more of a "VIP" night. But this year, every day/night has a "name" band, and there doesn't seem to be much special about Thursday in comparison to the other days.

I'm also confused by the claims that the new venue is SO MUCH BIGGER than Fort York. Maybe I'm spatially challenged, but Bandshell Park really doesn't seem much bigger to me - if anything, it might even be smaller.

I have a pair of tickets for this but I cant go since my softball team has a double header. I'll take $80 for the pair.

email efman@rogers.com

I'm at Morningside and Lawrence. Feel free to come by my house to get them or we can do it online since they are PDF files.

Thanks Steve

Oh, I'm definitely an LoG fan, even from before I saw Little Britain. Brilliant stuff. Or should that be "Special" Stuff? ;)

Have you checked out Psychoville? It's a new series by Pemberton and Shearsmith of LoG that just finished running on the BBC. Not quite as good as LoG, and the last episode in particular was a bit disappointing, but still well worth watching.
