Thanks for the mention, anything you can do to help with the turnout is greatly appreciated.

It's shaping up to be a pretty amazing day. We've got 16 talented brewers coming in to show off both their equipment, and their own unique methodology. Each of us will be prepared to answer homebrewing questions, and talk to the public about our shared passion for craft brewed beer.

As far as I know, no one has every done anything like this before, it's a very unique event. Cheers to Amsterdam for their ongoing support, and hosting us on "Teach A Friend to Homebrew Day".

The members of "Are You An SOB?" have come together as a group to share in bulk purchases for hops, yeasts, grain and kegging supplies. (Okay, we're all about drinking great beer, and perhaps having some fun together, but I digress...) Our mailing list helps us share ideas, regarding both equipment and recipe development. We're scattered all over southern Ontario, but we have a pretty tight little community that has helped us develop and grow as brewers.

We're hoping that you will all drop by Amsterdam on November 7th and say hello, see what we're up to. It's a great opportunity for anyone who enjoys a pint to actually see the process of how beer is made from grain, hops and hot water... and perhaps start brewing for themselves at home!

Cheers

Are you guys actually going to be brewing, or just providing info? Regardless, sounds like a great event!

Mark, it will be well worth the drive from Saskatchewan...

We'll have at least a dozen people brewing, everything from a condo stove-top set up, to turkey fryers, to a homemade Brutus 10, and even a guy who likes to use the Aussie method of Brew-in-a-Bag.

It's a rare opportunity to see into other people's garages!

Cheers

They are indeed brewing... I assume they'll have their homebrew equipment setup in the large event space.

16 different brews over the course of the day?

(That SOB beat me to it). :D

Sounds awesome, we've done a couple "public" brew sessions over the last 2 years, they are lots of fun, and attract lots of new people to the hobby.

For this year's TAFTHB, we're setting up a couple sites at member's houses - all members are welcome to brew, and all friends and family are invited to stop by.

These kinds of events whether they are large or small are great way to get people in the community involved and aware of brewing and the different options out there. Mark, I'm sure the public brew sessions you guys have been doing are a great time. The more people that get involved in the hobby the better.

I'm looking forward to this event at Amsterdam. Looks like it could be quite a great day. Not sure how many people will be out in the first year, but if we can keep building on this start it could turn into quite an event. Hopefully some folks from bartowel can make it out, put some faces to names, etc.

Anyone know how to get a hold of Homebrewers Retail? I've sent several e-mails trying to place an order for Saturday and I'm not getting any response.

*Edit* Just got a response, never mind!

Good reading.

I like the comparison between brewing your first batch of beer and knocking your first pair of boots.

I guess I'll see some of you all tomorrow.

I went down for an hour or so this morning.

Lot's of interesting stuff... right from the hole-in-the-bucket lauter (popularized by Papazian), to the intriguing brew-in-a-bag, to the multi-tiered burners and even horizontally pumped systems!

George was there pimpin' some CRAP as well (craft brewer recycled arts project).

A really great gathering of brewers (amateurs & pros), drinkers & some media.

It's a sunny afternoon, so get out & check it out!

Seconded. Lots of friendly and approachable people. Kind of like a science fair for beer nerds.

Brilliant day, absolutely brilliant

Ale Belly, Derek, great to meet you. I was the hole-in-the-bucket guy. And George put me next to the Brutus 10. It made sense, to show you can make beer in your downtown condo, but talk about performance anxiety. Around 3pm I got a "rolling" boil that lasted about five minutes. Damn college hotplates!
Gedge, sorry I didn't meet you. I've checked into your beer beat site from time to time and enjoy it.

The details for the SOB Amsterdam Nut Brown Ale Lookalike contest are posted at bjcp.org, in the upcoming competitions listings. There will also be an SOB website specific to this contest coming up soon but in the meantime you can get all the details at SOB's facebook page.

Seventeen homebrewers, brewing homebrew, in a brewery. Fantastic day.

Cheers,
Roger

Yeah... good to know Brian got back to you. Seems responses from 'info@homebrewersretail.com' are sometimes 'delayed'. Best to call the biz # 905-903-2644.
