There's also a bar called Aces 'n Ales. It was recently on the HDNet show, Drinking Made Easy.

"It’s the brainchild of Alice Cooper guitarist, Keri Kelli and buddy Ryan Johnson. With 22 taps, between 50-70 rare bottles and over 100 cellared kegs, Aces & Ales’ selection will appeal to beer connoisseurs as well as the casual beer drinker. Inspired by Aces the classic gastro pubs of London, they offer a full range of beer styles served in traditional glassware, as well as simple, quality-conscious comfort food. They also carry a fine selection of Single Malt Scotch, Tequila and Bourbon."

I stayed at the Hard Rock last year had a blast. There's a little corner store inside the hotel just past the Mexican restaurant Pink Taco. They had some Sierra Nevada, Dogfish Head, Stone and a few others. There's also a liquor store and corner store just across the street with a somewhat decent selection. I really enjoyed The Frog, lots of great beers there.

I'm back to Vegas in early May for another conference (poor me!). I'm staying at the Venetian this time.. any beer experiences there?

I think Cratez is actually there now... and I'm headed down next weekend. I'll be sure to report back.

Sadly I had to cancel in order to prep for a job interview on Monday. Thanks for the suggestions, though, and let us know how your trip went!

I was totally blown away by Total Wine up in Summerlin:
http://www.totalwine.com/StoreList.aspx ... store=1201

Boca Park
730 S. Rampart Blvd.
Las Vegas, NV 89145

Supposely over a 1000 different bottles & I believe it. Probably on-par with Premier Gourmet in Buffalo, but tons of different things you don't normally see.

Boca Park has a "Lee's Discount Liquor", but it's average. There's also a Gordon Biersch, but I didn't stop in. I decided to drop by Big Dog's Cafe and Casino on the way back to town. Very nice IPA and the food was incredible value.

Lee's Discount on South Las Vegas wasn't very good, big selection, but lots of old stock and very little in limited releases. You're better off hitting the whole foods (up the street, even closer to the strip) for the fresh releases.

The Lee's Discount on East Sunset was quite good. I picked up a few things that have been on my wants list for years (though I think they were all at Total Wine as well).

I can see the Hofbrau House from my hotel. It's actually a lot like the original... maybe a little Americanized. Good beer & good German grub, but you REALLY pay for it (more-so than the original).

2 nights down... 2 to go... I should really get out some more, but I do have a fridge full of beer.

I should note that I stayed at the Embassy Suites across from Hard Rock. It's not a gaming hotel (no resort fee), has breakfast to order & free wifi and was $139. I thought it was a good location, but it's right at the end of the airstrip and there's a LOT of planes going in & out of Vegas!

I drove by the Freakin' Frog, and it certainly did look like a real dive bar.

After going to the Big Dog, I didn't really feel like another 'Vegas bar' (smoke, gambling, where's the windows?).

I decided to make the shorter walk up to Gordon Biersch on Paradise. It has a really nice patio and large garage-like doors that really open up the bar, which was great at this time of year. The fresh air was a welcome change from all the cigarette smoking. The Maibock was really good considering they use domestic malts (unfortunately the Hofbrau house didn't tap their Maibock until the day after I left).

Vegas is certainly different. It's like the epitome of the American Dream (potential for a big win, girls & everything in excess). Personally I wouldn't spend my own money to vacation there, but I'd certainly go back for another training course.

Back home after my trip. The Venetian was a good hotel and the rooms are quite big and well designed. Recommended. Beer wise I could find Boston Lager everywhere but that was about it. The Sin City Brewing bar on the 2nd floor was pathetic and so was their beer.

I made it to Gordon Biersch and had their flight of beers. I really enjoyed the Pilsner. The rest were good and others enjoyed various styles. Its a nice building and the atmosphere and service were both v. good. I would go back.

I made it to Freemont during a crawl and The Griffon had DFH 60 on tap. If you haven't been there its a pretty cool bar. Darker, with lounge style seating and a number of fire places attracting a much younger crowd. Atypical for that part of town for sure.

Yardhouse http://www.yardhouse.com/NV/las-vegas-r ... wn-square/

The Pub at the Monte Carlo Casino (used to be The Brewpub) - no longer brewing, but probably best beer selection of Casino's on the strip.

IIRC Burger Bar at the Mandalay has some craft beers on tap, good for the strip.

I'll be going soon and, knowing myself, won't be straying far from the Strip. Anyone know the best bets for bottles, even if it's just a pharmacy or something?

Ate at the Burger Bar when I was down in Feb. Decent tap list, nice bottle list. Good food.

Also did Public House in the Venetian, great tap and bottle list, didn't have food.

Bottles are going to be tough on the strip. If you have some time and are to the south end of the strip, it's worth the short cab ride to the Whole Foods at the Town Square. It's maybe 5 mins south of Mandalay Bay. Otherwise you are hitting Walgreens for a limited selection.

There is a new Yard House location closer to the main part of the strip in the new 'quad' mall (by the ferris wheel). The beer and service was excellent, as I have experienced at other locations of theirs. Didn't eat much, but the appetizers were very good too.

Also got dragged to the Hofbräuhaus. It was horrible. I would not even recommend it for the irony (which is why my hosts dragged me). Food was dismal and the beer, well it couldn't even stand up to the dismal food. You'd be better off getting a street dog and a can of bud and sitting on a piece of cardboard begging on the sidewalk.

edit: Also look out for Tenaya Creek beers. The two I tried were excellent.
