Anyone do the oxygen stone method? This is something I want to get set up for soon.

Cheap and simple and foolproof, really. (As long as you have a backup O2 tank.)

O2 Tank? I'm curious of your setup. I use a stone hookd to a tube, hooked to a fishtank pump. Uses ambient air through an air filter to push the oxygen in the beer.

Works wonders.

Where do you use an O2 tank, and where other then your oxygenation since you seem to imply you need a backup.

What I've read about - and what I'd like to try - is the stone that gets 02 via a tank and that these tanks are available at hardware stores. Does that make sense? I'm clear on where to get the stone/tube setup, not so clear on how to supply the 02.

I keep a backup, 'cause I can't tell how much O2 is left in the tank, and I once ran out about 3 seconds into oxygenating my wort.

Dont know but this just seems like adding cost to producing homebrew. I figure, if I can breath it, so can my wort lol.

Pure O2 is sterile, and you only need to run it for 1-2 minutes. Those tanks are cheap, the last one I bought was good for about 15 batches.

you can use whatever method you want, and they'll all get oxygen into the wort, it's just a question of how long you'll need to do it and the amount of oxygen you can get in there. basically, with aquarium stone/shaking/splashing/etc you max out at 8ppm of dissolved oxygen - but it takes longer. with pure oxygen you hit that 8ppm in 20 seconds, and if you keep going you can get up as high as 22ppm after 2 minutes.

i know that since we started using pure o2 and a diffusion stone we stopped having any attenuation issues. i don't really pay attention, but i think we're getting 15-20 batches per $10 bottle. definitely worth it in my mind.
