I`m wondering if these are hops?

Found these growing backing onto a public area from someone`s backyard right across the road from me. Curious if they are hops. The cones don`t really smell but there is a yellowish resin inside them.

yeah, looks like hops to me. they don't have much more than a vegetal character until they're further along.

Yeah, check them in another 4-6 weeks... then see if they're using them!

It`s almost right across the street from me, I`ll talk with the neighbour and see if he`s using them, and if he`ll part with them for a few bottles of homebrew.

Someone on flickr mentioned to me that they are probably Humulus lupulus - 'Aureus' (Ornamental Hop). I don't know if they'd work well with beer, but from what I gather, they are close to fuggles. I'll see what the aroma is like closer to the end of summer. Kirin apparently makes a beer with them, they are sometimes called Golden Hops
