A once a year brew!

This tends to be a big deal in Kingston. For the second year in a row, the KBC has brewed a batch of "First Capital Ale" from an 1841 recipe. This is the year Kingston became the first capital of the new provinces of Canada East and Canada West (former Lower and Upper Canada). The brew is pretty good, with some resiny hops, earthy malt (as in their real ale), a sweet start that hints of honey.

The cask will be empty soon (last year the cask lasted 2 days), and then it's all gone until next summer. This could be a nice rare brew for anyone's Ratebeer tally.

(Cheers also to all the brewers I met at the St. Lawrence festival - a fitting celebration for finding a new Toronto abode).
