Mill St. Paradise IPA

Post by TheBeeraholic »

On my iPod hard to navigate the different forums. Anyone know anything about this? Heard it was launched at the brewpub in Ottawa and now available in Toronto at brewery.

Their FB channel states a small amount available on cask at Toronto brewpub. Indicates its a West Coast style IPA.

Well, I'm both a fan of both West Coast IPAs, and Mill St. Tankhouse which is my staple beer. Could I have a new staple beer?

Yep, I tried it on tap. It's okay... like a tankhouse with a bit more hop/citrus. I decided not to get a growler of it after tasting it at the pub, if that means anything.

I enjoyed it when the pub opened up, drank it exclusively first couple times I visited. I think the Ottawa fellas are raising Mill Street's game.

It's not bad, but it seems like they brought the bitter and forgot the flavour.

Agreed, and for me that means it does not resemble a West Coast IPA at all. I seriously wonder whether some brewers even know what the style entails. A slightly more assertive Tankhouse with moderately citrusy hops, a decent bitterness, and a significant bready-sweet crystal malt character does not a WCIPA make. And there's almost no aroma. Pretty disappointed that I dropped $16 on a growler (wasn't able to try it before buying).

I should also add that, as much as I like the accessible, vibrant atmosphere, going to Mill St. T.O. these days is like stepping back in time. My girl and I popped in after viewing some apartments and I couldn't believe that the Blueberry Wheat was the only specialty/one-off available. Ended up drinking the IPA and Cobblestone; both fine but not exciting by any means.

Agreed. The MSBP was really something that opened me up to different styles - but they really haven't kept up with "the times". Even though "the times" have been moving pretty darn fast in Ontario.

Tried it tonight and would concur. Plenty of malt, sweetness that becomes annoying after a while, strong bitterness, lack of late-addition hops.
