Parkdale Brewery

Post by Malcolm »

Just wondering - has anybody actually tried anything from this brewery? I mean, they've been a Facebook presence for over a year with pictures of their beers etc. but I've never seen a single case\bottle\tap handle anywhere, even in Parkdale. I've never seen any business by that name in Parkdale either.

Anybody?

They allegedly had a tasting last November I think, yet I see no photos of an event. Since they popped up on Facebook, 2 or 3 brewerys have appeared and produced a product that one could hold and consume. I think the people behind it are involved in the promotion scene in Parkdale, perhaps it is data mining of sorts (they do have at least 5000 email addresses) Their product line doesn't look too adventurous, and the only thing I've seen from them are a few tastefully rendered jpegs. I'm sure someone here has tried one of their brews, if they indeed exist.

They don't exist. For a while, the owner was touting himself as writing a book about their experiences from Booze Can to Brewery.

Periodically, when I am bored, I will scour the net for information on them. I will show you this:

https://www.elance.com/samples/parkdale ... /23403017/

That is a logo very similar to the one on the parkdale website that claims 2006 as a start date. Think of the social media presence that they had. Several thousand facebook people. If they have been trying to get off the ground since 2006, think about the number of breweries that have started in that time frame.

This is the most accepting market in the history of craft beer. If they couldn't make it last year, they ain't going to make it.

Also, and this is worth pointing out because it's so incredibly silly, the owner uses an online alias in order to comment on news stories about their product. If you see anyone named August Bruce posting about Parkdale, that's the owner.

Interesting and pathetic at the same time. Why would he bother perpetuating the myth? Thanks for the info.

In point of fact, let me link to the article where he does it in the comments section.

http://www.blogto.com/eat_drink/2010/12 ... n_brewery/

He uses an alter ego to claim that the owner of the brewery doesn't know about the article. He then goes on to claim that he has talked to himself about it and that he was exceedingly helpful.

It's incredibly childish.

Too bad because the few cheap dives left in Parkdale could use an alternative to Cool Buzz on tap.

I guess this is just some nitwit looking for his 15 minutes of foam.

So I had a little back and forth with the person behind the fictitious Parkdale Brewery the other day. He put more pictures of beer up on Facebook and somebody asked if they could actually try some. PB answered that "as of yet" they don't have their beer in stores and put some links to bogus events featuring the beer. When somebody else pointed out that the events had no dates, he started deleting posts so I said that the brewery doesn't exist, which he deleted and wrote this to me privately:

Please feel free to use the inbox, rather than post misinformed assumptions on the facebook wall.
Thanks.
Cheers,
Jason

Misinformed? I live in Parkdale and have never seen your beer/brewery and I drink a lot of beer. You want to put pretty pictures on Facebook? Back it up. No brewer I know promotes a product without being able to supply it, so tell me where I can get it and when and I'll believe it.

I don't know you personally, and it's unfortunate that I can't get the product out to everyone that is genuinely interested in Parkdale's Beers, but we have been working on it, hence the list of events where it will be present.

Apologies if this isn't good enough for you, but we're working on...

Is there a Bar Towel Golden Tap award for phantom brewery? It could be called the Manti Te'o award.

God what a desperate cry for attention. No mention of product, production dates and a poster for an event that isn't happening...

What a sh*tshow this is, haha...someone putting a lot of marketing effort into dubious projects.

The 'personal' profile for them has 5000 friends...I'm assuming that is the maximum allowed on Facebook...because, really, what person would ever really have 5000 friends?

Don't forget they have Scarborough Cider as well:

I don't know guys, his friends on Facebook seem pretty real and very serious about beer, this was brought into sharp focus for me when I read this:

"Yeu Seanghai - Packdale Beer don't have in Cambodia now?"

Clearly the beer is made here and shipped to a more discerning market.
