Bellwoods Hellwoods

I don't think I've heard a peep about this beer on here, and I'm not really sure why. This beer is fantastic and could go head-to-head with any good American RIS.
A: Poured with a two fingered head, tan, and the body black like pitch. Beautiful.
S: Classic nose of burnt sugar, oats, and grassy fresh hops.
T: This beer is still quite young – the hops are floral, grassy, and bitter – but the alcohol is extremely well hidden. The taste is upfront with stone fruits, molasses, and burnt sugar. Fresh grassy earth and bitter hops round out the finish.
M: Oily, thick, and perfectly carbonated.
O: This is the best Ontario Russian Imperial Stout, bold and brassy, complex, but not too sweet. Reminiscent of Founders' version of the same. So glad to have this in our province.
If you haven't tried it yet, do yourself a favour and find a way to get your hands on some (I hear they're going to sell it at a retail offering soon enough).

Aw shucks...I don't think I can make saturdays sale. I was hopeing you would say it was a regular watery ontario stout...
Seriously though good to hear it rules. Bellwoods is definately making above average beers of every style.

And Leipziger Gose. No they can't cover every style but they hella try.

Yeah - that's about right.
There's a lot I haven't experienced from the U.S., and I certainly might have had a better stout, but I can't recall it.
It's probably the most perfect thing to a stout I've ever had. They were $12 a bomber, but worth every penny.
Edit - had to enlist my wife to help me with the bottle though - its crazy thick...

I liked this, very excellent but I prefer Amsterdam Tempest, bottled version.

I don't remember Tempest being as punchy or as viscous, but I should definitely revisit.

IMO, I think Tempest is certainly as punchy (especially this year's) if not a little more in terms of the hops, but Hellwoods is more dark and viscous...Can't think of an Ontario Stout that has that dark of a head.

I still had a cold on Saturday during the Tempest event, and I think that beer might have cleared me out...
(Man - is the whole world sick right now - I hate to peddle folk cures, but I tried a tea with three cloves of garlic (and a smidge of brandy) and I have to say I felt A LOT better the next morning* (It was disgusting, but seemed to help)
*plus, I had lots of water and sleep.

I have enjoyed numerous beers from this brewery but this one less so. It seemed to have a decided coffee note, which is something that generally does not appeal to me in beer; can anyone confirm if coffee is used?
