I've come up with a particularly good blend. It is 2 parts Mt. Begbie Nasty Habit, 1 part Fuller's London Porter, 1 part Tree Hophead Black IPA. You could reduce the Hophead and increase the Fuller's, but I would still use both as each contributes something, freshness and richness for the Fuller, and an aged strong porter taste for the other.
The Begbie contributes its big hop flavours, flavours I find overwhelming on their own.
But in the blend, the citrusy big hop taste of the Begbie meshes perfectly with, is "absorbed" by (relatively), the big malty taste of the porter beers.
It's interesting how a blend can differ quite markedly from each on its own.
