YMMV but Mad Jack was fucking awful.
Ontario's longest running digital community dedicated to good beer.

I was pleasantly surprised by the madjack too. Last time I was in Buffalo I saw a bomber of "imperial" NYFRB. I think I regret not getting it... It was 10% ABC Or something ridiculous like that[/quote]El Pinguino wrote:I agree it is better than the handful of other regularly available options in Ontario. Surprisingly, Mad Jack by Molson/Coors is actually probably the best option we have, in terms of realistic root beer taste.admviolin wrote:spinrsx wrote:this has finally made its way to ontario - at TBS
Not Your Fathers Root Beer
6 × Bottle 355 ml Price: $16.95
I love this stuff. So much better than the other offerings in the province.
What are some of your favourite root beers? As someone who writes about them, and has sampled more than 500 of them...I'm curious.Coronaeus wrote:I love root beer, but this stuff is vile. The Ginger ale is even worse.spinrsx wrote:this has finally made its way to ontario - at TBS

Haven't had their ginger beer / ale yet so can't comment. Nickelbrook makes my favourite non-alcoholic root beer, but their ginger beer is disgusting.
Interestingly, the Ontario alcoholic root beers vary a lot...whether they're schnapps based, rum based, vodka based, etc. The mad jack is the most on-style. I'd guess you're not a fan of root beer in general?sprague11 wrote:YMMV but Mad Jack was fucking awful.
Barq's is on my drinking list from time to time, only because it's the sole mass-produced root beer that is caffeinated. Every so often I need a fix, or am on a road trip and go for the Barq's.Coronaeus wrote:
I like the one from NB. To be honest, there aren't many non-alcoholic root beers I don't like. Barq's is awful but other than that I like most I have had. I used to go to that place in Whitby and try whatever they had in stock. My problem with NYFRB is that it tastes like spiced rubbing alcohol to me. The ginger ale more so.
All that said, I'd take a good birch beer over root beer any time.
the 10.7% in bombers was really good. there's also been a 19.5% and a 24% that i believe was barrel aged?admviolin wrote: I was pleasantly surprised by the madjack too. Thanks for the tip.Belgian wrote: Incidentally the Spadinatown store was clearing out Avec Les Bons Voeux for a friendly 5.55, marked down from 6.95.
To me this is an amazing cellar candidate...
Pardon my ignorance, is this the location on Spadina close to Baldwin? I've got a few Bons Voeux cellaring, but at a reduced price a couple more can't hurt!Belgian wrote: Incidentally the Spadinatown store was clearing out Avec Les Bons Voeux for a friendly 5.55, marked down from 6.95.

I cleared out this store, and went looking elsewhere but it's not on lcbo.com anymore. Anybody see it?Provost Drunk kinda wrote:Chinatown Spadina close to Baldwin?
