Read online today that Saskatchewan is officially moving to a mixed public-private liquor retail system as existing SLGA stores will remain open - i.e. the province isn't selling them off - but all future liquor stores will be private.

According to the Star Phoenix, the new stores can offer home delivery, open from 8am-10pm (longer than public stores), include chilled beer coolers, and sell products that aren't carried by the SLGA.

The government believes the stores will be viable due to population growth and the positive response that it received from potential operators when it put out a Request For Proposals for three private stores last year.

In other news, Ontario is getting 10 LCBO kiosks in grocery stores. :(

This is the kind of model I think would work well in Ontario. Keep the LCBO for the hard stuff, vintages, and seasonalr eleases and let the corner stores cary Beer and wine - providing that Molson or whomever doesn't monopolize the distribution network.

We've already had 2 private stores here for 3 years. But yes they are adding more.

The biggest problem here is that all ordering and distribution still has to go through the SLGA... which is a total nightmare for the private stores and pubs that want to bring in different product.

I know Willow Park is one of them, but I thought Cava recently closed. What's the other store?
