ya, that stuff is crap. you should just homebrew your own abt. :P

Seriously, is it just aggressively bottle-conditioned or are there signs of infection? Sour or funky aromas?

Are you letting the bottle settle & chill down a long time in the fridge? And why not open the bottle over a Duvel tulip or other large foam-catching glass, instead of opening it with a camera already in hand?

It's OK man. We're here to help.

Did you open this before a new pope was chosen? The trappist brews have far reaching effects.

Haha! Obviously the monks are angry!

Seriously -- neither bottle were agitated (had sat for quite some time prior to opening), and the first one was back in December. Contents taste/smell fine, so I've got no idea why they're doing this. No camera on hand....quick iphone shot as my wife tried to clean up and my father-in-law was about to slurp off the counter haha.

Now that I know it's an issue, future bottles will be opened over something to catch the $12 worth of beer I'm losing. ;)

Just wondered if anyone else had an issue....obviously I got a crappy 6 pack!

Kidding aside, a quick google search for "westvleteren gusher" brings up quite a few results (this could also be due to the greater recent availability, not just a symptom of infection). But I do wonder if they cut any corners to get this large recent batch to market.

Interesting, I didn't know Westy 12 had this characteristic. That would suck if I traded or got 1 bottle and had it happen unexpectedly.
Some beers are just prone to this, like Tripel Karmeliet...that puppy is a foam monster (hence the bigger-than-Duvel glass).

Reassuring (sort of?) to know it's not just mine! Pretty ridiculous though as the couple I've had in the past prior to the December influx didn't do the same!

I've never had a problem with a Westy "gusher". Not with bottles pre Ontario release or the two I've had so far from the Ontario release.

I've opened one and it did not gush at all. That'd be a real piss off.
