So they're rioting in Turkey over new alcohol rules being brought in by the Islamist government. What exactly are they trying to impose on the country?
The regulations would prohibit retail sales between 22:00 and 06:00, ban all alcohol advertising and promotion, and stop new shops and bars from opening within 100m (330ft) of schools and mosques.

I'll have some of that.

Turkey is a very different place than Canada. Their population is a mix of people who are proudly and adamantly secularist and people who are devout Muslims who favour religious law. The secularists fought long and hard to get a secular state, so they'll riot over pretty much any government action that they think is a step towards religion.

I'd be in that boat. Both there and here.

Yeah, but it's not a serious worry here. I don't think we'll see the clerics taking over Parliament Hill any time soon.

I think we might be missing the joke here. The new alcohol rules put forward by the Islamist government are, with the exception of advertising, more liberal than what we currently have in secular Ontario.

The alcohol laws may be adding fuel to the fire but it's hardly the main reason for the protest.
