Re: Around the World Beer Trip...where would you go?
Partly depends on if I am paying or not :) Also am I prioritizing the beer or travel? Beer focused I would probably spend a good chunk of time in the UK. From there take the train to Belgium, then on to Germany and Czech Republic. Add Switzerland if I can do the Glacier Express. Alternatively, UK to...

I mean, it's not THAT long ago that a suburban bar with Trou du Diable and Beau's on tap would have been a good thing!

Re: Where would you go for 4 or 5 days?
You can easily fill a few days in Montreal and surrounding area. If you haven't been to Buffalo in a while there a several breweries that have opened since the last time I went. Could combine with a Finger Lakes Trip. Pretty much any part of Ontario, depending on what ratio of beer to other stuff yo...

Re: What's Your Favourite Ontario West Coast IPA?
Fairweather has a new WC IPA called Lefty - Delicious Not sure I'd call it a traditional WC IPA so much as just not hazy but I did quite like it back in April. I feel like this style has a lot of potential - less malt forward than a traditional WC IPA, less caramel and resin, but also less of the g...

Re: Denver/Boulder
My usual research these days is to start with the places maps at Ratebeer (mostly to identify spots. There aren't enough people actively rating places anymore to be enough on their own), do a venue search on Untappd, then when i get to destination check to see what people are checking in where. The ...

Re: St. John's, Newfoundland
Sent you an email with notes from my 2019 trip. Let me know if you didn't get it. Landwash was great. We drank a decent amount of Quidi Vidi Day Boil while we were in Newfoundland. Craft beer prices at the liquor store in NFLD (and the maritimes in general) skewed higher in my experience. Decent sel...

Re: Turncoat
I was under the impression that Turncoat was a contract brew at Dragan and never really got going on a brick and mortar location. (I had crossed them off the list on my 'Try every brewery' quest on that basis.) Tough to say from their website / Facebook.

Re: Beer in Convenience Stores coming early
Having said that, good chance a lot of us will be dead by the time changes occur that would excite a craft beer enthusiast. I am a bit more optimistic than that - I think there is potential for a convenience or grocery store to decide they want to have a great beer selection as one example. We kind...

Re: Beer in Convenience Stores coming early
Unless it's allowed to be cheaper we won't see beer at Costco. I wonder if that's true. I would have assumed they would want to get the extra sales but without that differentiation point it may or may not be worth the space / the other stuff that comes with dealing with it? I guess we will see. I t...

I went back in 2018 and it was decent based on the four beers I tried. Seemed like a nice enough spot that was just getting started. No idea what it's like now.

Re: Evergreen 2024 Craft Beer Fest
Great Lakes is hosting a Brewed For You Craft Beer Festival in August; depending upon session, ticket prices for an event with 20-ish breweries/cideries is either $30 or $45. I was excited for that when first announced but then I found the lack of additional details provided so far a bit frustratin...

Re: Evergreen 2024 Craft Beer Fest
Yeah, I haven't been to any big events recently so I can't say how it compares but I definitely saw the $35 admission and immediately balked. Given that most of the breweries are in Toronto I can just go spend that at one of the breweries.
Maybe that's just what stuff costs these days? But ouch.

Re: Third Moon Brewing
I used to, but it's next to impossible now with so many beers being released. I have also had too many times where I do "one of everything!" at a brewery then half of them are not great when I get home!El Pinguino wrote: ↑Fri May 10, 2024 4:08 pm Does anyone else have a weird completionist mentality like me,

Re: Zwanze
The $19 was only for two specific ones IIRC. Most of the bottle pours were more like $10-12 per 5oz, which works out to around $52 per 750ml/26oz which is a lot but not crazy given that the bottles started at around $35 per bottle retail. Some of the rarer ones were significantly more. Lots of peopl...

Re: Is lining up for beer releases a thing of the past?
I think part of it is that there is SOOO much beer out there now that there is not really as much scarcity as there used to be, but also as I get older, the bar for what i'd be willing to line up for has gotten a lot higher and frankly there aren't many beers I'm willing to line up for anymore!
