Re: Celebrity Pub Encounters?

I ran into Saul Rubinek and said hello to him while walking between Wvrst and Bar Hop a few years ago. Does that count? (It's also possible I accosted some poor guy that just happens to look a lot like Saul Rubinek... lol) I didn't meet him but I was looking at some photos from Cask Days photos that...

Re: New Arrivals at LCBO & TBS

Rogue was an early U.S. supporter of Ontario (so it seemed), and I think there's a small band of beer folks my age that had quite an admiration of them - I know I did. I really liked their beers that were here, sought out their stuff when I was in the U.S. (I still think those tiny bottles were the...

Here is something different. https://www.cbc.ca/news/canada/british-columbia/whistle-buoy-brewing-ai-beer-robo-1.6755943 That's a disgusting amount of lactose. Any amount is, for that matter. I guess algorithms don't get sick... I tried it last week and was going to say it wasn't that much lactose ...

Re: New Ritual - Supposedly Closed

I wonder what the record is for shortest-lived brewery in Ontario is? Pretty sure there are a few that never actually made it to opening. I've been aiming to try every brewery in Ontario so have been watching Jordan's brewery list, Canadian Brewing News and other places and monitoring them and ther...

Re: People's Pint - Closed

expect a lot more of this as we roll through 2023 I have no inside knowledge but feel like with the state of the market small breweries need at least one of excellent beer or a strong local following. Breweries that have just okay to good beer and not enough local support are going to struggle, esp...

Re: Black Oak Sold

I am pretty surprised by this on several levels. I am surprised to see Black Oak sell (but also not - Ken has been working hard for a long time!) but also kind of surprised Silversmith is in a position to be buying. Given the other sales and partnerships we have seen lately, this would on the surfac...

Re: Breweries Selling outside beers

I've noticed the food thing has been enforced at some breweries, others never bothered. I'm guessing everyone's just playing fast and loose with the rules these days because they're mostly b.s. anyway. I had a couple of orders where I paid for chips and didn't get them. It's like a $1 so who cares,...

Re: Vancouver Updates

nothing I had particularly blew me away, at least in the sense that our second tier stuff would be top tier over there. Certainly lots of great spots, but we really are spoiled in Ontario, which I'd say rivals almost anywhere in North America for quality of beer. This was my impression a few years ...

They specifically tweeted that they will not be accepting old tokens if anyone didn't see. Probably wise given the number that are still out there! :D

Re: Burlington Brewery

Quite a few years ago, I met a rep for Black Oak in an LCBO. This was shortly after they had moved from Oakville to Etobicoke. The rep told me that the owner moved to be closer to their market, and said something about not getting a lot of support from Oakville restaurants. I wasn't too sure at the...

Re: Is cask beer still a thing?

I'd say the number of people that enjoy a good cask when they come across it is higher than the number that would actively seek it out. I enjoy cask beer but Cask Days was more about finding new and interesting beers than the fact that they were on cask. I'd say the places still doing cask in Toront...
