Re: New Arrivals at LCBO & TBS
That's so funny. I basically did the same. Sounds like it was widespread. Why do you think that is (that we all did much the same thing)? COVID by-product? Are we all the same age, lol?

Re: The Beer Store Changes Pricing Displays
Yes, as I understand it convenience store pricing, Costco pricing, is pre tax and deposit, so TBS is obviously changing to make their prices directly comparable (and not sound "higher").

Re: Toby's Pub - College St.
Did they use the same (or a similarly inconsistent) yeast for their lager, too, whose name escapes me? I remember it as being all over the map, sometimes quite enjoyable in a muddled, "crafty" (i.e. not clean or highly attenuated) kind of way.

Yes! Gritstone was great. Or that is my recollection at least. It would be fun to try it now.

Re: Toby's Pub - College St.
Yes, the ones you mentioned, plus Conner's Best Bitter, the original (Maclean brewed version of) Wellington County Ale ... I think we would probably say that they lacked hops. That is the easy answer. But part of me thinks I would like them still, and that "traditional English-style pale ale&qu...

Re: Toby's Pub - College St.
Toby was the gateway beer! On to Conner's, Upper Canada, Creemore, Brick... Kind of like what Tankhouse was at one point before it became undrinkable. It sure was! It was the only non-crap on tap at the Queen's U. grad house in the early 80s, for example, before Conner's or U.C. even existed. My me...

Nope. Stumbled on it once a few years back when I was up that way and it was very enjoyable!El Pinguino wrote: ↑Wed Oct 16, 2024 10:59 am Am I the only one who likes Lake of Bays beers, and their restaurants too? lol.
Two quite different breweries, hope they both do well going forward.

"Please do not go direct. Please do not speak to staff. Your discretion is appreciated". Yet they have listed the property on a public website, lol.

Lol. I've never been to Istanbul, so perhaps that is the next best thing. At least you don't have to declare whether you're Celtic or Rangers any more, I suppose (we're all Turkiye!).

Just tried to Google it. No luck / too soon. There is, however, a Celtic Irish Pub in Istanbul. Coincidence?

Visited the original Greenwood location recently for the first time in ages. Enjoyed this year's batch of Mr. Oktober Festbier. Nice and fresh right now, and really tasty. Always a pleasant vibe there too (especially if you like baseball, dogs and babies, and who doesn't like a well-behaved baby?!).

Yes, I have family up that way and this is true. Had a few cans from them recently, and I agree that they were pretty similar to what I remember from old Kilannan (I really liked the Alt back in the day). Of the ones I tried on this visit, I liked the NZ Red (resiny with lovely malt flavours, bone d...

Re: Beer in Convenience Stores coming early
Agree re the doom and gloom scenarios. Minimum pricing will never decrease or disappear so long as the health nannies are whining about the negative effects of better access and lower prices. There was yet another op-ed in the Star the other day advocating for higher prices, in fact. Regarding varie...
