Re: A Night with Hill Farmstead & Radical Road

Strange event. I wonder if this is actually sanctioned by Hill Farmstead, or if RR is simply selling pours of bottles it bought. I would hope the former, but it just seems so odd.

Re: Zwanze

I think Nick is right that the move to non-ticketed may had dissuaded people, but I think the bigger issue is that this comes hot on the heels of the (incredible) Cantillon event, which had a much more impressive lineup of beers. Other than last year (which was a bit of a different situation), a big...

Re: King Taps - First Canadian Place

It's just randomly distributed on tables/the bar on a different menu. It's not secret, just poorly advertised. I have no idea why they fail to bring it to people's attention or why it is not automatically included in the menu items provided when you sit down.

Re: King Taps - First Canadian Place

The tap list is very good (you have to watch for the "seasonal" or "rotating" menu, which is large and features some very good things) I did not see any such menu. Just noticed that at least 10 of the taps I was looking for weren't on the beer menu that was given to me by the ba...

Re: King Taps - First Canadian Place

I have to disagree- sort of. You are right about the vibe, but for its location, this place is great. The tap list is very good (you have to watch for the "seasonal" or "rotating" menu, which is large and features some very good things) and there is nothing remotely comparable in...

Re: Cantillon Volo Event Aug 8th

The description says there are 15 beers in bottles, but lists only 10. Is this due to some beers being available in multiple vintages, or are there undisclosed bottles?

Re: King Taps - First Canadian Place

I'm interested because I work about 1 minute away. But I am also very skeptical. it is apparently owned by the same group that runs the Cactus Club restaurants. I don't expect it will be getting anything exciting, or that GLB et. al. will be sending one-offs to this location. But I do expect that th...

Re: LCBO Online Exclusives

I bought a case of the 3F. Is there anybody who purchased the Sang Noir that is interested in trading one of those for one of the 3F?
Thanks,

Interesting. Who are your guesses? If there were to be 2, I guess I would pick Beau's and Muskoka, but I'd be curious to hear if you have a different two in mind....

Re: Current ratebeer.com Ontario top 10

It's amazing that 10 Bitter Years still sits where it does on that list. I have had it very rarely over the last few years, but I have been disappointed on each of those occasions. There was a time when it was my favourite Ontario beer. Some of the change is definitely an improved Ontario beer lands...

Where to go in Ottawa?

I'm going to be in Ottawa for the night. What is the best bar or brewery to hit up? I confess that I have not kept up with what the current breweries in Ottawa are, but I'm more interested in trying some Ottawa stuff than a taplist that I could see in Toronto.
Thanks!

Re: Coming Soon to the LCBO

No method of distributing limited quantity beer is ever going to please everybody. But this was a very well-run event. Handing out numbered tickets well before opening helped prevent line-cutters, which for an event like this could easily start some fights. The donuts and coffee were a great bonus t...

Re: Cask Days 2015

They stopped serving Four Winds Nectarous sometime between about 9 and 11 (I had recommended to a friend after I'd had my share -- was my first cask pre-admission, and was given a double pour for the price of one token -- sorry, others!), and the Smog Rocket was no longer pouring either. Had tried ...

Re: Cask Days 2015

I went to both Friday sessions and had a terrific time. Friday afternoon was, as others have said, excellent. Much quieter, lovely weather. Food was excellent this year. It has been good in the past, but sometimes a bit too "refine" - when drinking a lot of beer, it is nice to have somethi...

Re: Cask Days 2015

The full beer list is up now.
Lots of good stuff (or that looks good), but I will definitely be waiting to hear some comments before I dare to try TDD's "Beef Cake Mockery"- a Brown Ale with Beef Stock. WTF?
