Re: Badlands Brewing Caledon
Hahahaha, exactly why this "hype" brewery isn't on my radar. I'd consider it to be the best brewery in Ontario, though. In other words, not hype. Maybe, and I mean maybe, they make the best hazy beers in Ontario (Barncat and Third Moon could certainly hold that spot as well). But there's ...

Re: New Arrivals at LCBO & TBS
I had a Bellwoods A Stout with Coffee (https://www.lcbo.com/en/bellwoods-brewery-a-stout-with-coffee-30366) the other day and thought it strongly resembled my memory of Peche. Possibly a little stronger on the coffee and a little more approachable at 5%. Reminded me why I grew to love that brewery ...

Re: Beers in Cuba
Bumping this old thread as I just got back from Cuba (Varadero 2 days/Havana 4 days) Cristal (green can or draft) - 5% - available everywhere - Generic marco lager, refreshing on a hot day. I really didn't mind it. Cristal Extra (white can or green bottle w/ white label) - 5.2% - available everywher...

Re: New Ritual - Supposedly Closed
They might as well use the same copy for Reverence Barrel Works in Cambridge: social media post saying it was "temporarily closed" for January with no updates since, google listing stating it's "permanently closed", plus I talked to a local brewer who picked up barrels from the b...

Re: People's Pint - Closed
expect a lot more of this as we roll through 2023 Noticed someone up the road from you is "temporary" closed right now... Cambridge will have half the number of brewers it currently does in less then a year That's a bold prediction, but if anyone would know the brewing scene there... Long...

Re: Is cask beer still a thing?
The Wooly has 4 engines?! I can't recall seeing more than one in use at a time since I moved to Guelph. I bet it doesn't move particularly well, which I suppose is why it's kinda not a thing all over. The old-timey beer bars have old-timey clientele (hey, that's us!) who like the told-timey styles ...

Re: Gout, filtered vs unfiltered beer, and the guy trying to cheat the system
The cherry juice didn't seem to work with him. In speaking with my doctor and a dietitian it seems, like most things in life, that what affects one person may not affect another (hence the cherry juice not working for me). I might be able to eat as much seafood as possible but beer might be a trigge...

Re: Gout, filtered vs unfiltered beer, and the guy trying to cheat the system
Hazy can be tricky. It's a bit wrong to automatically assume the haze is (all) suspended yeast. Yes I know, however there is no way to knowing (without talking to the brewers themselves) if this is the case or not. Many hazy beers I've had are just filled with yeast particulate, while others just s...

Gout, filtered vs unfiltered beer, and the guy trying to cheat the system
This November/December I experienced my first bout of gout, and it was without a doubt the worst experience of my life. To make it even more special, 3 different doctors said that it was the worst case they'd ever seen... yay me! While there are many reasons for a/my gout attack, beer is definitely ...

Re: New Arrivals at LCBO & TBS
LCBO website is showing the closest location with LTM Baltique is in Ottawa- anyone know if this one just sold through quickly, or just slow to distribute? Hopefully the latter since I was meaning to go look for some. Max I've seen was four stores: Ottawa, Peterbourgh, Toronto, and Mississauga. But...

Re: Top 5 B.S.
Great Lakes Lager. A case of 24 for $50 is hard to beat, it’s good cold, and fits the lawnmower beer requirement. For non-Ontario, it’s Jever for me - delicious Pilsner that’s relatively cheap. Jever is my go to, almost always in my fridge. I just went with DAB over Jever due to accessibility: I ca...

Re: Top 5 B.S.
I'll play along, but I'm removing the "produced in Ontario" criteria, because who's stopping me??? In no particular order, here's my top five utility grade beers: DAB. Hit's all the points: Pretty much any lcbo/tbs has it, it's $2.30/can, and it's pretty darn good, especially when cold. MG...
