Re: Bar Hop 2 (Peter St)

Craft has 145 according to their website, plus 15 taps that aren't beer. I don't have a particular threshold in mind, but from my limited travels in the US it seems common in cities there for there to be at least one or two places like that with like 100 taps. Seems less popular here, for whatever ...

Re: Bar Hop 2 (Peter St)

Yes, i was exagerrating slightly. Having said that, it's not a place i enjoy. The space and vibe are just not inviting. Loud and uncomfortable. Maybe I'm just a grumpy old man. 😀 I feel the same actually, though I haven't been in like 7 years. I found it hard to have conversations there, which is m...

Ha, I'd hope you could find at least one passable option in 145!

Re: Bar Hop 2 (Peter St)

How many taps do they have? I thought they were in that 35ish range, which is respectable but not huge.

Re: Bar Hop 2 (Peter St)

It makes you wonder if the large-scale beer bar model will ever work in Toronto. CRAFT is pretty much the only place left, isn't it? I know there are other places like WVRST, beertown, and great bars that seat less people, but I mean places with truly huge tap lists.

Re: Breweries closing and/or restructuring and/or bought out

Pretty sure I had a few pints here and there if the other choices were Keith's, Stella, Bud and Bud Light. The AB InBev lineup really is awful. At least a Molson pub will have Guinness or Creemore, usually. I’ve seen Hop Valley and even Trou du Diable L’Apocalypso at Molson pubs in the ‘burbs. They...

Re: Breweries closing and/or restructuring and/or bought out

The easiest guess is it just wasn't selling. I do remember seeing it on tap a while back now, by you're right it's becoming kinda rare.

Re: Breweries closing and/or restructuring and/or bought out

Yeah, I feel like you used to see those goose-head tap handles in a fair number of places 10 or so years ago, inevitably being the IPA and the Honkers Ale, but far less so now for some reason. Did one of the majors have their distribution? Personally, I felt their core lineup was pretty meh, though...

Re: Breweries closing and/or restructuring and/or bought out

I feel similar things about the Goose Island Toronto location. I never wish ill on anyone, but GI Toronto feels like their Instagram closing post could be anytime now. Whenever I've been it's always dead, and the Bier Markt side doesn't seem to have any of the corporate business that it enjoyed pre...

Re: Breweries closing and/or restructuring and/or bought out

It felt like a push that came maybe 5-10 years too late. Nothing about them stood out by the time they arrived, they felt like a middling player in a saturated market.

I feel similar things about the Goose Island Toronto location.

Re: What're you drinking right now?

Come to think of it, I don't think I've ever eaten anything with a FVA. I think I have always had that as a standalone thing after all the food is done, almost like a nightcap.

I bet it would be great with a cheese plate though!

Re: Barncat Artisan Ales, Cambridge

I've still got a few things from Barncat kicking around my cellar. I had a Cuvee Matt & Jeremy last night, which I think is a blend of a Flanders and a Saison, and it was great. Anyone know if these guys have landed anywhere else yet? I keep expecting to hear they're the new brewers at somewhere...

Re: What're you drinking right now?

I'm drinking a "Ce n'est pas la fin du monde" right now, and it's terrific. I guess this is a dry hopped tripel? It ends up kinda like a double hazy IPA, but I gotta say I like the tripel yeast and body here a lot more than I do hazies.
