Re: New Arrivals at LCBO & TBS

The latest Unibroue mix pack at TBS has gone from bottles to cans and has 3 each of Eau Benite, TP, LFDM and Maudite. The coming gift pack won't be terribly different -- LFDM, Maudite, Saison Libre, and Blanche de Chambly (plus a BdC glass). The cans will be bigger in this one, and I don't think th...

Re: Aging canned Unibroue vs bottled

The winter pack has always been skewed towards the higher abv end; it was good to have a Chambly tossed in, even if it was the Blonde. It is a shame that they've reduced the amount of variety in the pack, although the trade-off is more beer -- 355ml cans vs the old 341ml bottles. Thanks for the feed...

Aging canned Unibroue vs bottled

I noticed (with some dismay) that the seasonal pack of Unibroue at the Beer Store now is canned, not bottled. I'd really like to set some aside for aging, but have doubts about how things would turn out with canned beer. Anyone have any experience in this area, and/or does anyone know if it's still ...

Re: Formerly The Emerald Inn (now The Monk's Kettle)

Just a quick note to report that The Monk's Kettle closed shop on the 26th of May; dunno what sort of establishment will be taking over from them.

Is there a snowball's chance in hell that Peach & Pepper will be resurrected as a 7 Barrel Series release?

Re: Pine

If you were hoping for actual pine beer, the only one that comes to mind would be Alba, which is part of the Historic Ales from Scotland set. That's being cleared out now as the set came in for Christmas, but Alba itself is over 7%ABV, so I would assume it hasn't mellowed too much. https://www.lcbo....

Probably a wonderful rhapsody of flavour compared to my sole surviving Sam Adams Triple Bock.

Re: New Arrivals at LCBO & TBS

In addition to missing Rouge, I miss Southern Tier too. That was a fun time. I miss doing the private orders. My favourite was ordering cases of Great Divide Titan and Hercules. Those beers blew me away back then. A certain highly respected Eastern Ontario brewer dealing out of his trunk at Toronto...

Speaking of old favourites, the Péché Mortel is hitting the shelves again.

Re: New Arrivals at LCBO & TBS

I was quite surprised how Rogue pretty much vanished from the Ontario market; we used to have access to a number of decent releases -- Shakespeare Stout/Wild Irish, Chocolate Stout, Dead Guy, Imperial Stout, Old Crustacean, Hazelnut Brown, Brutal Bitter -- and then it went downhill quickly, with onl...

Re: What're you drinking right now?

Puttered around the cellar and pulled out a Rochefort 8, bottled on Sept. 14, 2005. More of a 10 person, so I'll have to hunt for my oldest bottle of that to see how they compare. At the moment, I'm under the impression I would've been happier cracking this open a couple of years ago, but it's stil...

Re: What're you drinking right now?

Omnipollo Prodromus. For some reason I was expecting much sweeter, but there is a bitterness here that I find very appealing. My recollection of this is that is was very sweet, matching the desert flavour description on the can. My measure of a very sweet beer is that I would have been happier pour...

Re: Peppered beers

Thanks for the suggestions; hope to be hitting GLB & BB this week. Will probably hit the 'BO too for the Honey Habanero, even though honeyed beers aren't my fave.
