Re: The Rhino

Previously I have never been a fan of The Rhino. I've had some terrible pours there due to likely dirty lines. This past summer I went twice because I happened to be in the area. That issue seems no more. Good clean pours. Good selection. Service was pretty quick inside and on the patio. (Never eate...

I've never been to their restaurant(s) but have not enjoyed their beers over the years. I presume they've improved?

Re: Beer in Convenience Stores coming early

I never thought in my lifetime Ontario would finally be where it is now. (Boo on Ford for handing over taxpayers money to his corporate overlords to speed this up!) I'd visit all sorts of places in the USA and around the world where alcohol sales and consumption were nothing burgers: buy from privat...

Re: Thirsty & Miserable

But what about the dank? Can you describe the dank? I'm getting so excited about this. Mismatched furniture? Do the bathrooms have pesky doors? Come on, throw me a bone. Something, anything. Good nearby shawarma to bring in? If you're going to do reconnaissance... Well, I thought I'd leave s...

Re: Thirsty & Miserable

I went this past Saturday. Bar at the front with stools and seating at the back. The usual music on and not that loud too, which is always nice. Two unisex washrooms on the main floor. Six taps with I presume four more on the way at some point (based on the unused tap fridge further down the bar.) F...

Re: General LCBO Debate & Discussion Thread

I bought a bottle the last time it was available here and took it into my previous work's booze club weekly "meetings" for sampling. Everyone who tried it shrugged at it and said it was a cool bottle. Didn't finish the bottle that night and it's still sitting untouched since then on my liq...

Re: Thirsty & Miserable

Yeah, looking forward to T&M returning. Too bad it's no longer a short go-on-a-whim walk for me. Hopefully there's some decent take out eats around there.

Re: Evergreen 2024 Craft Beer Fest

Or even just Brewer's Backyard. Those are the events I miss the most. February 2018 Brewer's Backyard at Brickworks was the first official date with the better half. We also did the 2019 one too as a first anniversary. Then the world stopped for a while. Anyways, we're getting married in a couple o...

Re: Evergreen 2024 Craft Beer Fest

As with all such events, please Event Owners/Organizers, I WANT TO KNOW WHAT IS BEING SERVED BEFORE I COMMIT MONEY! I do not want to find out that all of what is being served is the breweries regular staples which are available at the LCBO, ordered directly from them or at bars around town. And idea...

Re: Toronto West Beer and Bourbon Fest

Thanks for posting that! I remember Toronto Bourbon Week. :D I discovered at Carbon, for half price!, what would become my favourite bourbon. Completely random selection, I just picked the highest price shot on the menu. I recall the LCBO had some stock of it then and none since despite my pestering...

San Juan, Puerto Rico

Recently did a Caribbean cruise with the better half and friends. One of the port stops was in San Juan Puerto Rico. I spent several hours at La Taberna Lupulo. https://www.latabernalupulo.com/ I read many positive things about the place and it didn't disappoint. Live beer and food menus: https://ww...

Yup, I want a nice beer while after Security while waiting to fly out (both in domestic and international terminals), not at the end of my trip or (GULP!) ahead of dealing with Security.

Re: Best Ontario pilsners

While I prefer Jever I also found myself drinking Pilsner Urquell more this summer... probably because it's in my local lcbo instead of having to order Jever online. Thanks - don't think I've ever tried (or even heard of) Jever. Looks like that is available at my local LCBO, so I'll also give it a ...

Re: Best Happy Hour Deals in Ontario (Ongoing)

Thanks for the Wasted Youth and Function Bar recommendations! :D I went on Saturday afternoon to Wasted Youth and it seems to be a reasonably good Thirsty & Miserable replacement. (I do miss T&M! ) Function Bar will be a good place to go up at Y&E when I can't drag friends over to ...
