In keeping with the literary theme ... the novelist Graham Greene's great-grandfather was the founder of Greene King brewery in England ... they used to make great beers, but the quality has fallen somewhat lately.

The Rhino's great ... great beer selection and great prices too. I was there a week or so ago with a friend, and the bill for 10 cask ales (Durham XXX IPA -- really tasty) was under $45. Yes, we did tip well.

Stonch on two Canadian beers

I dropped off a couple of beers to my friend, a pub owner, and to Jeff of Stonch's beer blog. Both loved the Devil's Pale Ale.

Here's Stonch's review: http://stonch.blogspot.com/

He mentioned that the only other Canadian beers he's tried are Labbatts and Sleemans. Pity.

looking for advice

I’m going to be enjoying my Xmas gift to myself next week – four days in London, UK. I want to take a couple of Ontario beers to a friend who operates two pubs (one a Wells & Young’s, the other a Badger Brewery house). Generally, I drink cask or keg beers, and not much bottled or canned brew, so...

Barley Days Cherry Porter

Tried it yesterday evening (WEd.) at Volo. I quite liked it. Nice sour cherry after taste. The "burnt" taste common to porters and stouts -- a taste I don't particularly like -- was nicely understated. All in all, a good beer. Also, the London pride from last weekend was still on cask, and...

I "sampled" several of the Deuchars IPA this past weekend. Terrific beer ... good malt and a great hoppy finish. It's one of my favourites on cask when in London. Highly recommended. The only piss off is that it's a seasonal offering, and in limited quantities. I hate it when these monopol...

Al ... thanks for the lead. I contacted Stonch and got a reply immediately. Good information, and he's definitely got a great beer blog. It's a good thing I contacted him, since through him I found out that the Jerusalem Tavern is closed on weekends ... saved me a trip. Oh, I'm so looking forward to...

I'll be in London in a couple of weeks, and I fully intend to visit, for the first time, the Jerusalem Tavern in the City. It's St. Peter's only brewery owned pub. The pub has received great reviews on a number of British beer websites. Ahhh, the thought of cask St. Peter's. Can't wait.

The site looks good, and should be useful one comments on the listings start coming in. I like the idea of the micro and cask listing.

This is very much like www.fancyapint.com which is extremely useful looking for pubs in London, UK.
