Humble Beginnings in Ingleside

Ha! These two would be on my list of “don’t recall hearing of them before”.

Re: What're you drinking right now?

Burdock Double Ducks-absolutely excellent. Great balance and body. Signal-FireWire, it tastes like soap and nothing else to me, maybe a touch of bitterness. I remember having this beer years ago when the brewery was originally around and it was quite decent. This is not. To be fair though it’s right...

Re: Around the World Beer Trip...where would you go?

After reading the posts on 5 day trips, it made me think back to this old chestnut of a topic. I wonder what folks answers would look like these days? Travel is travel, but maybe some answers may change as the scene here now is far better.

St. Ambroise Baltic Porter It's been a long time since I saw St. Ambroise beers at the LCBO. Today they had the Pumpkin Ale and this Baltic Porter which I'd never heard of from this brewery before. Very strong tasting, almost jarring - licorice, roast, and, yes, alcohol - when you haven't had a str...

Re: What're you drinking right now?

Leftfield Mr Oktober. I really enjoy Fest beers, and normally love Leftfield no matter what style they do, but I don’t love this. I’ve had it in the past and enjoyed it much more, but for some reason not this year. I grabbed 4 cans 2 weeks ago, this is now the 3rd one I’ve drank. First I thought may...

Agreed…and while we’re at it, make it the magnum sized ones again :)
I’ve got one last bottle of the 330ml bottles in the fridge that I can’t bring myself to open.

Re: What's Your Favourite Ontario West Coast IPA?

Currently sipping on a 3moon Left Hand Path(mosiac). It’s very very good. Admittedly, I’m a bit of a mosiac whore, but this is a delicious beer. Nice white grapefruit pith and pomelo flavours up front, some mulberry kicking around in there and a solid bitter finish. This is the second of the Left Ha...

Goodlot-Top of the morning stout..... canning date, November ‘23 Do you (or others) feel 'freshness' matters so much with a stout? I know it can make a difference with hoppy beers, but I've never thought there was much concern with other styles. I don’t feel “freshness” is such a big deal with stou...

Re: What're you drinking right now?

Goodlot-Top of the morning stout. Really quite underwhelming. Generally what I’ve had from Goodlot is very middle of the road, so not really surprised. After drinking, I checked the canning date, November ‘23 Merit-Young Rival ipa. I havn’t had this in probably 7 years or so, I was surprised to see ...

Thanks, I just checked and even the normally good Victoria Park store doesn't have it.

Yep. I’ve seen it in a couple stores in Guelph already.

Re: Short Finger Brewing

They do great stuff. I’d agree with Mathew and Sammy, neck and neck with Sparrow for best brewery in the area now. Shortfinger does more unique stuff by a long shot though.

Sparrow’s Sir Richard’s Wobbly pop Pilsner. On the higher end of abv for a pils(5.9) and more bitter than most. I really enjoy the ramped up bitterness. I had this when they first opened(pandemic times…mid 2020) and I seem to think I enjoyed it a lot more, not sure if it’s changed or it’s just me. S...

Re: What're you drinking right now?

Recently a good amount of Royal City Station Stout. A nitro stout, no widget. Sticker on the can advising to shake before opening, and pour aggressively. Nice creamy body with a beautiful cascade on the aggressive pour. Milk chocolate and mocha flavours for the most part. I think I’d prefer it a tou...
