Now here's a firecracker thread! While I agree with the posts suggesting “just because you are big, you are bad” is foolish, let me run another one by you... I have a friend who for most of his life thought beer started with coors and ended with light. Then he took a moment to consider the possibili...

Hmmm…perhaps I’m not the sophisticated connoisseur I think I am. I don’t find the Okanagan offering that offensive. That and the Big Rock are dull, I will agree, but far more drinkable than the MolBat tap offerings around here. I didn’t mean to suggest you run out and procure a case, just that the m...

I should add one more positive note. In Vancouver it appears reasonable beers like Okanagan Pale Ale are everywhere on tap. You actually have to go out of your way to find crap like Keiths and Stella, but the Okanagan is even on draft at the White Spot (local take on Denny's). Many average bars have...

Thanks for the suggestions. I have not been to the Granville Island brewery or the Dockside in a long time. I do remember liking their lager when it was available on tap. In the can, it's not so special. Shaftsbury does a better job in this mainstream. The Yaletown brewpub has been going downhill fo...

BC Update
I’m on a short trip to Vancouver. It’s been a while since I have been out here so I decided to grab a sampler of untried (by me) locals. Here are a few biased opinions to share… 1. The BC Liquor stores make me appreciate the LCBO. Even if the ‘BO is too stupid to refrigerate it’s inventory, at least...

I think there was a thread on this a while back, but anyway, you're right, there really aren't many stouts made in Ontario these days. A few years back, we had a few more that had at least some distribution, such as Conner's Brock's Extra Stout (Niagara) Upper Canada Hart Glatt Espresso and Glatt I...

Belgian, I just thought you were inspired by a NOW cover. 8) I will give Steam Whistle top marks for quality over variety, but there are so many good Toronto breweries. My vote also goes to Mill St. for the best - good luck on the brewpub to them, by the way! I think we can also squeeze Cameron's in...

We have plenty of solid stouts brewed in Ontario, not so many Belgian Dubbels. While you may be right about the ratio, I really think Ontario needs more good stouts. The Granite makes a great one, but distribution is only offsite. I can't think of any others that have this style well executed. If y...

O'Hara's Celtic Stout
I just discovered this little gem at the LCBO. I had never seen it before; though I'm sure the experts here have a good handle on it. Anyway, I just wanted to share this very nice stout with all of you. I particularly like the slightly bitter and refreshing quality. I also like the fact it doesn't t...
