Re: beerbistro

Funny. I was just walking by there the other day. I didn't have the time to step in, but I made a mental placeholder to revisit. I used to like how the place was not too loud (unlike Craft, that you mentioned). Most of the time you could actually have a conversation with someone, which is the whole ...

Re: What're you drinking right now?

This years GLB Lake Effect is a real winner. Last years was a great return to form, but I think this year is even better. Somehow well balanced, but still lively flavour and aroma. Dare I say, it's probably their best beer. Also tried a new GLB offering, Sultana Solero NEIPA. It looks to be a one of...

Re: Vancouver Updates

Thanks for this. I must revisit. It's interesting what the fog of memory/nostalgia can deliver. At one time Central City had a shine to it compared to Ontario, and maybe they are still good, but it seems the lustre is gone. I still feel Howe Sound is on the mark, but I don't know if they have had th...

Sorry, not sure what you are referring to.
Gladstone was another anti-abolitionist politician.

I'm surprised there isn't a dust up over the name Gladstone Brewing. Perhaps it's seen as fitting with the allegations of labour practices in the industry. :o Nice to see a spruce tip entry. I haven't seen that as an adjunct in quite some time. Done well, it's really nice. I think Garrison is the la...

When I saw that headline I was hoping that it meant Bench was using Henderson's capacity to deliver more of their recipes, not the other way around. Oh well...

Re: What're you drinking right now?

Great Lakes Fernado's. New, or at least new to me. Kind of old school. A bit more malt forward than I've become accustomed to, but I'd call it well balanced anyway. No real hop aroma, all malt. Not a bad thing, just more of a celebration of a style we don't get much of these days, or done well these...

Re: Side Launch - Mountain Lager discontinued - WTF?

Am I the only one that feels like this media release came through a rip in the space-time continuum, direct from Bizarro World? I mean, sure, spin it up a bit. But, Equals Brewing (of which I'd never previously heard tell) is one of Ontario's most successful brewers? Side Launch Wheat is the world'...

Enjoy and please return with a full report!. I should be getting out there in the near future and fear many of my favourite spots may have succumbed to the plague. New reconnaissance will be welcome.

Re: Vancouver Updates

I have had a soft spot for 33 Acres on 8th Ave. W. They have a nice simple and social taproom with good beers. Next door is their "separate" experimental operation. Some interesting things have come out of there. They do the rotating food truck thing out front for food. I recall being told...

Re: Is cask beer still a thing?

First of all, to answer your question "is cask beer still a thing?" in a more pointed way, the question did reignite Bartowel participation!

I think I recall seeing cask beer at Northern Maverick, but that could have been an anomaly and I don't get there all that much to verify.

I like when some get really creative and also list their address on their website. Sure it's kind of pretentious, but still a nice touch.
