Re: beer (alcohol) and health
I knew this would come up here at some point.    OK. Not really a bad discussion to have. I have done many a dry February. Picking the shortest month of the year should speak to my commitment on these matters. There are two things about this discussion that always make me br...

Re: Prenup Pub - College St.
I've had some great food at Sin and Redemption. Like you, I have not had food at Prenup, but I have met with folks there a few times for a beer. Somehow, it just didn't feel like the place for me. I can't put my finger on it. I think it might have been that Einstein was still operating down the road...

Re: France 2023 Beer Notes
Gary, I have been noticing a trend/theme here. First lots of pics with a bottle and a glass showing the pour, but rotated 90 degrees. Now I am seeing pics properly oriented, but the glass is progressively emptier.

Re: Merchant Ale House
Did a search and found a very old thread for this place. I've been there a few times over the last few years; it's a really nice little place. Last time I was there was last spring and I bought a Merchant Ale House Skullkrusher Bourbon Barrel Aged Brown Ale I had it tonight which prompted me to fin...

Re: Gout, filtered vs unfiltered beer, and the guy trying to cheat the system
I forgot I had heard of the cherry thing before. One thing I really like is to buy frozen cherries and blueberries and use them in smoothies. Despite the cherries being labelled as pitted, it's best to check them before blending them so you don't have a gritty smoothie; I too often find pits. Perhap...

Re: Gout, filtered vs unfiltered beer, and the guy trying to cheat the system
As a homebrewer, I have some knowledge of this, but no experience using the big guns like commercial filters and centrifuges. Those are indeed two forms of filtering, as is effective cold crashing, which is what us lowly basement dwellers use. When done right, I have made plenty of crystal clear bee...

I hope this means we will start seeing more LTM products in Ontario again. It's been ages since I have seen them here.

Re: France 2023 Beer Notes
It's interesting how before craft, we generally felt that the beer world had flattened out. Countless brands basically all making the same thing. Sure there were regional styles and some old world regional brewers left, mostly in Europe, but in general, we didn't expect much local when we were in a ...

Re: Betty's on King St is Closing
Ambience will differ from the old low-rise blocks but that's progress I would dispute that a bit. The only real progress I see in the newer places is that you don't have to go into the basement for the washrooms. To me, most of the new places are just plain too loud. It's not a factor of being new,...

Top 5 B.S.
This be the time of year for lists. Effin’ lists. Seems like a cheap and easy way to create media content. Well, rather than be annoyed as usual, I’m going to lean in. In fact, I’m going all cheap and easy. What I propose here are my top five utility grade beers for 2022. These are based on three cr...

Re: Black Oak Sold
I don't know much about Silversmith, but I hope they had a really big truck full of cash to drive up to Ken's door. He, IMHO is one of the more upstanding people in the industry and deserves a happy retirement. Even if he continues to tinker. I still recall seeing him back in the day late at night a...
