Re: New York/Manhattan/Brooklyn
I usually like to find clusters of places so I can get to a bunch of stuff and explore an area or hood. I remember liking the Fourth Avenue Pub, which was a standard neighbourhood pub but had an excellent craft beer list which was cool. Looking it up again on Maps I see there's a bunch of breweries ...

Re: Surprisingly good beer from TBS
I do often shop at TBS to get some of the 6/12 pack deals. I'll echo that St Ambroise is pretty good value at TBS and the beers are still tasty. And there's usually some IPA from someone on sale. There's a TBS at the end of my parents' street and I went yesterday and found Boneshaker for $17.95 for ...

Re: Celebrity Pub Encounters?
Long before the pandemic, when going to the Rex could involve sitting shoulder to shoulder with other patrons crowded along one of their long tables, a stranger sidled up between my wife and I and said, "You do know you're sitting next to Gord Downie, don't you?". I had to confess I did n...

Celebrity Pub Encounters?
I saw this on Blogto and thought about a fun pub encounter I had many years ago. https://www.blogto.com/eat_drink/2023/03/mike-myers-surprised-staff-toronto-pub/ I was once working on a Saturday or Sunday afternoon at my office at Yonge & Bloor. I went with a colleague down to the old Duke of Gl...

Re: 2023 LCBO Spring Release
Thanks for posting these 2 lists Cass. With some of the recent reminiscing on here it's nice to see some good old seasonal release lists as well as some throwback beers. Thanks for the kind words! Now that I know the LCBO will provide upon request, I’ll ask for them every season and try and get the...

Re: New Arrivals at LCBO & TBS
I miss doing the private orders. My favourite was ordering cases of Great Divide Titan and Hercules. Those beers blew me away back then. 2006 - seems like ancient history: https://www.bartowel.com/forum/viewtopic.php?p=18110 Feels like we were all way more excited about the possibility of beery thi...

Re: Kensington Brewing Company
I dropped in there sometime late in the fall. I'm thinking it was close to the holidays. I also see their beers at the LCBO, but I haven't thought to check if it is old stock. Could they have closed the location and are producing elsewhere? They have a Vaughan location (the old Lake Wilcox brewery ...

Re: Kensington Brewing Company
Anyone know if Kensington Brewing is still going? Stopped by their downtown location yesterday and all locked up, even though hours posted on door said it should be open. No Instagram posts on their account since November ‘22.

Re: Trinity Common - Kensington Market
Was wandering around downtown today and stopped into Trinity Common for the first time in a long time and it still seems to be going strong. Good business on a Saturday afternoon with the bar full and lots of folks at the tables. 30+ tap list, with all kinds of stuff - very wide range of styles. And...

Re: New Arrivals at LCBO & TBS
Miss that one big time! Not sure if it’s a function of getting older, but I definitely yearn for good “simpler” beers instead of crazy stuff. Although I still like a good hazy, I’d welcome nice British and U.S. ales & traditional IPAs around.

Re: Burdock Brewing
Stopped in to the new brewery today. A nice space and cool use of the older building. Perhaps I didn’t really read the posts closely, but it is just a brewery and bottle shop, no taproom or tasting area. Maybe it was a way to get open quicker as don’t have to deal with everything that comes with set...
