Galapagos Islands

Well, cross one off the bucket list - last week I was fortunate enough to go to the Galápagos Islands. Quite an amazing place - wildlife, scenery, history - it’s something else. It’s really not like anything I’ve done before. Animals everywhere, pristine islands, snorkeling, beaches, all so memorabl...

Re: Vermont

Heading to Vermont for a few days in August, staying in Burlington at the Hotel Vermont. I’ve booked a visit to Hill Farmstead, and will also visit Alchemist, Prohibition Pig, Farmhouse and Zero Gravity. Based on the useful information in this thread I may try to get to a few of the others like Foa...

I have heard very good things about their pizza. Got to give it a try next time for sure!

Re: Would beers from the past be highly regarded today?

I have often thought about this in the reverse sense. What beers are there today that are fine, but don't necessarily stand out. But had they been available 10 or more years ago would have blown you away. Totally agree - a bunch of years ago before the beer revolution here I used to drive to Buffal...

Re: Would beers from the past be highly regarded today?

However, I remember that the now dead famous beer author Michael Jackson (not the singer) never gave Canada a five star beer. At the time, he was probably right to do so. Nowadays, we would probably score some five stars for some of our better brews. I used to analyze Michael Jackson's beer ratings...

Re: Great Lakes Brewpub (Queen's Quay / Jarvis)

So who's been here? I went during the first week and had a good first impression. Nice space - not too small and not too large. Long bar and a nice mix of hightops and table seating. Unfortunately when I went the refrigerator conked out so the tap lines had to be shut down. First week hiccups so no ...

Would beers from the past be highly regarded today?

Here's something I think about from time to time but not sure I ever brought it up on the forum. Would beers we enjoyed in the past that are no longer around be thought of as highly today? Here's an example. During my formative beer years in the 90s, Niagara Eisbock was considered one of Canada's be...

Re: Stone goes to Sapporo

I think what I meant to say is probably more related to recipe cost cutting, Mill Street comes to mind; the quality is generally good but there's no way these recipes weren't cheapened, especially Tank House. No arguments there - Tank House definitely doesn't have the bite it once did. Luckily ther...

Re: Stone goes to Sapporo

I'd love to have Arrogant Bastard available again, still nothing quite like it locally. Unibroue and Anchor product quality hasn't seem to slide under Sapporo ownership, I imagine the same will be true for Stone. Granted it's a fair point that it didn't seem to help with Ontario distribution in Anc...

Thanks for the tip. I've been a few times and it's always been a good visit. And lots of other stuff around the area too.

Re: Stone goes to Sapporo

If this means we see Stone being brewed in Guelph to the same standard as what I've experienced from Stone's products, at a lower price point than Stone imported, I said "giddy-up!" I would definitely agree, however Sapporo has for a few years owned Anchor in San Francisco and they went a...

I can’t say I’m surprised at any acquisition anymore, this one included.

Re: Portland, ME

Thinking of taking the I-90 and I-95 on our way to Portland, but I'd be open to the 401/Montreal route if people have found that faster. Awesome, that trip will be a lot of fun - envious! This is certainly not faster, but I would table for consideration the Cornwall -> Plattsburgh Ferry across Lake...

Re: Portland, ME

Amazing! That will be a lot of fun. I've only been to Portland once for an afternoon - I spent a week in Kennebunkport and couldn't get away for a bigger explore. However, I did go to Allagash which is 1000% a must-visit. One of the best tour experiences I've had. Granted, I had the "industry&q...
