Introducing Light Mode! If you would like a Bar Towel social experience that isn't the traditional blue, you can now select Light Mode. Go to the User Control Panel and then Board Preferences, and select "Day Drinking" (Light Mode) from the My Board Style drop-down menu. You can always switch back to "Night Drinking" (Dark Mode). Re: Beer in Convenience Stores coming early

Seems this will likely only benefit consumers in terms of convenience. Not in terms of price or variety. At least initially. It's interesting about variety. It's been what, 8-9 years since beer has come to grocery - has variety improved? Certainly not from anything outside of Ontario. There's more ...

Re: Beer in Convenience Stores coming early

Cool your heels on lower prices. It ain't going to happen with minimum pricing in the regime. Look at the propaganda. It never mentions pricing. Just convenience. Costco will get in the game only if they think their members would like to pick up beer without making an additional stop somewhere. Tha...

Re: Beer in Convenience Stores coming early

I wonder if that's true. I would have assumed they would want to get the extra sales but without that differentiation point it may or may not be worth the space / the other stuff that comes with dealing with it? I guess we will see. Costco is a special case which is why I'm always interested in it....

Re: Barrel Heart Brewing and Blending

A note of clarification from the original post - they still have their original facility which is where they brew & blend. The new spot is just a taproom. But I don't think the original spot is open for visits anymore.

Re: Beer in Convenience Stores coming early

Added: I thought about how the Libs could attack Ford for the big fee, but it hits less hard because it was the Libs that made this poor contract. Politics aside, remember the "poor contract" was a part of what brought beer to grocery stores in the first place. Everyone pretty much loves ...

Beaumont and St. John speak with Rubin about the subject in today's Star. https://www.thestar.com/business/is-the-beer-store-finished-experts-say-retail-operations-will-likely-close-as-corner-stores/article_a6f2ac48-1c37-11ef-bb10-c3ec718f14d9.html My primary skepticism remains around if breweries w...

Re: Evergreen 2024 Craft Beer Fest

I reckon it's gotta be hard to run festivals nowadays - rising costs across the board and changing consumer tastes as evidenced in this thread. I think most of us are on the same page with how we feel about festivals, but we haven't been replaced by the younger generation. I wonder who the audience ...

Re: Steel Wheel

It's funny you should mention them. I was driving back from Michigan and was looking on Google Maps to see if there was anything along the way I hadn't been to before. This popped up, but I ended up going to the new Barrel Heart in Dundas instead. So I guess I'm not being terribly helpful :) But 4.9...

Re: Barrel Heart Brewing and Blending

I was driving through the area and stopped at the new Barrel Heart taproom in Dundas. Great spot right on the main strip, a block away from Shawn & Ed. About a 30 seat taproom in a pretty historic building, with a patio with a number of tables out front. I don't believe the patio is fenced in wh...

Well, Goose Island Toronto may not have done Black Friday, but it doesn't stop them from having BCBS throughout the year. Stopped in today and they had '22 on tap.

GSU Pub - University of Toronto

I thought I'd show some love for the GSU (Graduate Students Union) Pub on Bancroft Ave. on the University of Toronto campus downtown. I stopped in yesterday and was very happy to see it still going strong - I used to go there regularly as a student at UofT in the 90s. It hasn't changed much over tim...

Thanks for starting this up @hopdevil!

I have never heard of the Poacher but it sounds/looks like a cool spot. Just a couple of stops down the GO line so will definitely go and check it out soon!

Re: Booze in Toronto Parks - 2023 Pilot Program

The parks not included are commonly because of NIMBY councillors and residents. The city does have a generic sign it uses that is less zazzy and more easy to miss. Yeah, a few grandstanding councillors acting like they know better than everyone. Kudos to the council as a whole, they voted down the ...
