Re: beer (alcohol) and health
I got a bad bout of covid back in November, then got sick two more times in as many months since. I ended up not drinking for pretty big stretches, and since (finally) getting better overall, have found myself wanting to drink less; almost like a reset. It also perfectly coincides with the decision ...

Re: New Arrivals at LCBO & TBS
OMG, another double post. What the heck. I'm at work right now....and I am NOT drinking. :D Sureeee... haha That one you linked looks like the bottle I occasionally get from TBS after returning empties and I do recall it still says 'brewed in Canada' on the bottle. Based on the LCBO listings, looks...

Re: New Arrivals at LCBO & TBS
Noticed a new listing for Guinness Extra Stout, says it's brewed in Ireland: https://www.lcbo.com/en/guinness-extra-stout-30575 TBS has long carried Guinness Extra, but it's the Canadian brewed version that never tasted as good to me. Curious to see if this is just a packaging redesign, or if we're ...

Re: Something in the Water
See, I'd love to try that oatmeal stout or ESB, but instead they send things like their lime lager or (yet another) hazy IPA to the LCBO- thus I've yet to try anything from them. Good to hear the beer is good though, I usually grab food and a beer in LV before I go to shows at the Amphitheatre, but...

Re: New Arrivals at LCBO & TBS
LCBO website is showing the closest location with LTM Baltique is in Ottawa- anyone know if this one just sold through quickly, or just slow to distribute? Hopefully the latter since I was meaning to go look for some.

Great Lakes Lager. A case of 24 for $50 is hard to beat, it’s good cold, and fits the lawnmower beer requirement. For non-Ontario, it’s Jever for me - delicious Pilsner that’s relatively cheap. Absolutely Great Lakes Lager for me, exactly what you said - hard to beat that price - it's cheaper per l...

Re: Bar Volo 2.0
We got there around 3:30 and the music was at a reasonable volume, although I did notice that it seemed to get turned up around 6 as we were leaving. So I guess my advice is go early... I'm getting older anyway, so quite happy to start and end my days out earlier lol

Re: Bar Volo 2.0
Considering Bar Volo 1.0 was my favourite beer bar in the city, it took me far too long to visit 2.0 What a fantastic place. A nice menu of snacks and smaller meal items, and of course one of the city's finest beer menus. As it was a celebratory occasion, we went for a bottle of Cantillon Gueuze bec...

Re: Black Oak Sold
I'm hoping this pans out as Black Oak has some core beers I really enjoy, but can't always find due to uneven distribution. I'd love to see their Nox Aeterna available in the LCBO, or even Nut Brown more widespread. Styles come and go, but Black Oak has always been an ol' reliable, making pretty muc...

Re: Nickel Brook Brewing
I've felt the same thing, re. Kentucky going downhill. Last one I had was 2020 and even back then I thought there was a significant drop in overall quality. It was thin, lacked nuance and balance. I haven't tried it since as I have little appetite for spending that much money on a beer, unless I kno...

Re: Do you ask for a ‘pint’ anymore?
I ask for a pint, taking it to mean a large glass whatever size that might be - force of habit. Same here, basically. It feels old-fashioned, like paying for the TTC with a "token." I paid a cash fare this past weekend, I wasn't sure if they still accepted it at first lol As far as asking...

Re: Old Flame Brewing's new location in Toronto Distillery District
I was surprised when I heard the news as Old Flame has seemed to fly under the radar all these years, yet here they are with a splashy Distillery District space. Their kellerbier and dunkel are staples in my fridge, and when I make it up to Port Perry, their Raven black lager is probably my favourit...

Re: Betty's on King St is Closing
modern developers really fail to recreate the sort of lively street level experience that older buildings tend to This really saddens me about what Toronto is becoming. Everything is becoming condos, and almost none of them provide the "bustling food and drink experiences" that the sales ...
