Re: New York/Manhattan/Brooklyn

I can't speak personally since I haven't been to NYC since 2006, but if you're over in Brooklyn I see a lot of praise for Grimm and KCBC. Now granted this is beer instagrammer praise, so hype breweries or whatever you might call it, but they seem highly regarded. I believe both are new since the las...

Re: Badlands Brewing Caledon

Now that said, I've definitely enjoyed a number of IPAs in this style, of what I've tried from Badlands I generally like more than I dislike, but it seems my favourites are the ones that the hardcore hazy fans might find to be on the thinner/lighter side. I tend to agree that the lighter ones can a...

Re: Badlands Brewing Caledon

Maybe, and I mean maybe, they make the best hazy beers in Ontario (Barncat and Third Moon could certainly hold that spot as well). But there's so much more I'd rather drink than hazy ales. To each their own. I find all three them (and many of the other breweries in Ontario known for their hazies to...

Re: Surprisingly good beer from TBS

I'm with you on cutting down my beer spending, sadly it's become unsustainable. I'll typically fill the fridge with GLB Lager, Canuck or Pompous Ass which range from $50-60 per 24. Just about the best value out there. Jever and Bitburger are also a good deal at under $65/case. My other go-to when I'...

Re: New Arrivals at LCBO & TBS

What great news to start the week, Peche is still one of my all time favourite Canadian beers. I can't even remember the last time it showed up in the LCBO, it's got to have been years. LCBO listing says 473ml can for Peche - that's a big one! I missed that! Five bucks is a pretty solid deal for a ...

Re: The Granite

Their nitro ESB is stellar, definitely an underrated brewery. They've had some really awesome homage beers over the past year, including riffs on Dave's Pale Ale and Dogfish Head 60 Minutes. This is a reminder that I need to get out there more often.

Re: New Arrivals at LCBO & TBS

I swear Rogue Dead Guy Ale was still kicking around here until just recently, it seems to show up on and off. Definitely a beer I enjoy when it shows up, because honestly, how many breweries offer a year-round flagship maibock? Definitely a few others mentioned here that are bringing back fond memor...

Re: Ontario brewed Tripels...

So I managed to grab the 4-pack that includes tripels from Shacklands, Folly, Brock and Meuse. So far I've tried Shacklands and it's a solid 4/5 from me. Nice phenols, fruitiness, dry; strong but well balanced. I found the malt veered into a caramel/toasty territory, it seemed quite dark, almost du...

Re: New Arrivals at LCBO & TBS

The Guinness Extra Stout appearance is notable, especially with the Labatt version still available, afaik. Will be interesting to A/B. Meanwhile, we need Guinness FES and the West Indies Porter, these show more the true Guinness palate. Or the strong European version. I mention some in a post recen...

Stone returns! https://www.lcbo.com/en/stone-fear-movie-lions-double-ipa-29593 And Destihl comes to Ontario! Would not have guessed that. https://www.lcbo.com/en/destihl-haze-of-the-dead-hazy-double-ipa-29592 Nice to see Stone back, I hope it means Arrogant Bastard might return as well. We've alrea...

Re: Ontario brewed Tripels...

The Int'l Tripel Day was actually started by a local guy, @craftbeerdays (I follow him on Instagram). To his credit he's got a lot of breweries participating this year and releasing tripels specfically for the occasion. It's probably easiest just to link the website, he's got a pretty exhaustive lis...

Re: New Arrivals at LCBO & TBS

I grabbed some as well. Certainly an amazing value for two bucks, no doubt. A little sweet for my tastes for session drinking, but for the price I'll probably be keeping it on hand.
