Re: LCBO.com

Just stopped by to plug LCBO Watch, still goin' strong: https://lcbo.watch/new-releases I still use this too and find it very helpful, although the updates don't always seem as timely as they once were. A year or two ago the LCBO did a major behind the scenes rework of their website catalog. Part o...

Re: Bellwoods Brewery

I thought you needed a distillery license to make beers over 11.9%, in addition to the added cost? I wonder if they have one, or they're just skirting the silly law? Or probably more likely I'm mistaken? There were a number of changes to alcohol laws early in the pandemic. I _think_ I recall this b...

Any considerations to expand your delivery footprint? I habitually order most of my beer online now instead of frequenting the LCBO. I love GLB beer but looks like you guys only deliver to GTA.

Re: Side Launch - Mountain Lager discontinued - WTF?

What I really wish is that Hancock takes his core recipes and resurrects the Denison's brand and brewpub. I wonder if any enterprising brewery in Ontario has approached him to bring the brand back as a part of a broader portfolio. I'm sure he doesn't want to do all the heavy lifting at this stage o...

Re: Nickel Brook Brewing

oh man...I forgot about Cafe...repressed memory. 2018 was the GOAT, 2019 (v1 and v2) were really good, and then downhill. I forget if it was 2020 or 2021, but one of them was a drain pour. I've only drain poured 2 beers, that weren't infections, in my life.

Re: Nickel Brook Brewing

Anybody had this years Kentucky(RIP bastard)? I’ll usually buy a couple each year. I’ve just been drinking my first this year and it’s a huge let down. There’s a decent amount of bourbon on the nose…but in the palate is is lacking big time compared to previous years. There’s a touch of that heat yo...

Wow. I saw it come back a could weeks ago, checking several times a day for the inventory to go up. Missed it. Only 3 bottles? Should have been a lottery.

Re: Coronavirus

This is mostly based off release data as sales data is hard to come by; here is an infographic on beer releases for breweries doing online ordering across Ontario: https://brewed.today/articles/2020 This discussion piqued my interest though, when I get time I might go back and compare the number of...

Re: Coronavirus

I suspect the new releases are partly a way to drive repeat sales. A new beer every few weeks means I'll probably order some of my old favorites at the same time. customers only want new beer, if you don't have something new every week you are an afterthought I was inclined to argue that but I was ...

Re: Ontario beer retail - not LCBO, TBS

So help me out. This appears to be a private beer retail operation that I thought wasn't allowed. Was there a change that I haven't heard about? Yup, there was. Early on in the pandemic the province passed some liquor law changes that include allowing a licensed establishment to sell take out alcoh...

Re: Bellwoods Brewery

I''m not a brewer but the price is understandable. These DOUBLE barrel releases have spent like 18-26 months sitting in barrels adding costs related to storage and transfer while compounding the risk of spoilage. All while losing liquid volume to evaporation. Yup it's expensive but justified IMO. T...

Some updates on the site over the past year: I put together some statistics on beer releases over 2020, you can check it out here: http://brewed.today/articles/2020 There's a Twitter account that just tweets new beers and re-releases that haven't been seen in months: http://twitter.com/BrewedToday C...
