Re: Beer at Ontario Costcos
Tangential Piece in the star (paywall) highlights some prices and wines at Costco. Some seem to be 10% or so cheaper than LCBO. Also praises the wine buyer, which I’ve heard about their American stores. Hopefully I’ll be wrong and there will be some smaller producers closer to the warehouse like Tow...

Re: Beer at Ontario Costcos
This was a decade ago (and not Ontario), but I remember seeing a case of Sierra Nevada for $25 USD in one of the most expensive states in the US. Finally, we will get the chance to technically say, it's kind of like that here. I predict it's going to be like the selection in Quebec, but with GLB and...

Re: 2024 Fall Importation LCBO Release
I, too would like to see more Quebec beer. Le Trou Du Diable Le Coq Barrel Aged looks to be phantom release.
Interestingly, because the SAQ doesn’t carry much Quebec beer, it is like a dollar or two more expensive than the LCBO.

Re: Stepping away from beer reviews
I have way fewer reviews than even 1,000, but I can see that others have moved away from reviews or scores as they rack up numbers. Because I keep a hard cap on beer consumption, I don’t love having a beer that turns out to be not great, but subsequent times would really be preventable. Untappd is h...

Re: Stepping away from beer reviews
I don’t believe in objective taste. All of my ratings are to my preference because I can’t do anything else.
Though others can use apps for however they see fit.

Re: Stepping away from beer reviews
I like the verbosity of Beeradvocate much more than the mostly scores of Untappd. It’s a shame that Untappd has basically taken over. One of the good things I like about Untappd is the lack of granularity. Perhaps many have a finer palate than I do, but I could not reliably differentiate a 91 and 92...

Thanks for posting.
Always nice to know the gems of the LCBO.
Though, the store is only classed as “A”, out of a possible “AAA”.

Re: Passage Brewery
It does seem like a bulk beer is important, especially where there is not a high density of people. Short Finger in Kitchener does it. I’m not too worried about quality because the brewer’s been in the game for a while (confirmed Still Fields brewer). I don’t know the first thing about operations, b...

Passage Brewery
New brewery up in Collingwood. Focus is on lagers and saisons. So far it looks like they have a low-alcohol saison, a lager, and a stronger saison. Small size and time-consuming methods mean prices reflective of those. Available at the Volo convenience store. Side notes: Really like the cutesy label...

Re: Around the World Beer Trip...where would you go?
Leaving from Pearson to Portland, Oregon. Try out some past WCIPA favourites and current spontaneous ones. Take the slow train south to Northern California to try the first WCIPA and others that I have heard good things from. Take another slow train to San Diego to try some favourites from the past....

Wish I could have gone, but it's certainly one of the best in the city.
Poutine is crispier than normal and I like it.

Re: Crossroads (Weston & 401) clearance section
First time at the store. I read through the thread and perhaps unsurprisingly, some things never change. As soon as I walked in there was some local character, broad daylight. Selection was a bit better than normal, with large amounts of stuff. Twofours of some stuff. The clearance section was small...

Re: Where would you go for 4 or 5 days?
Some of the ones I was thinking of: Montreal to Vermont. DDC, Vices and Verses, Pit Caribou, Dunham, Lawson's, Alchemist, HF, etc. Portland (II) to Vancouver. Too many to list but heard good things about Temporal Artisan Ales and Garden Path. Oregon has so many, including my #1 want to visit in the ...

Re: UK pint talk
I personally don't have a strong attachment to 568 mL serving sizes, but I do believe in standardization. This should be called a pint and nothing else. I would actually prefer half of that if it is half the price.

Re: General LCBO Debate & Discussion Thread
Under 200, now. I was looking at some cellared posts of what things were like in the past and stumbled upon this. Too bad we no longer have a foreign correspondent. From 2003 or so. The Utopias ended up costing us less than we expected, so the retail is now $140US. I know - its still an obscene amou...
