Last night I had the Nickel Brook Old Kentucky Bastard. This was a really interesting beer. After having the Winey Bastard (Pinot Noir Barrel Aged), which was so barrel-forward that it tasted more like a wine than a beer, I was expecting a bourbon bomb. This was anything but. The barrel qualities w...

Until this week, I'd never actually purchased a growler, so I don't know what a typcial deposit is for screw-top. On my way home from holiday travel earlier this week, I stopped by the Publican House Brewery in Peterborough and paid a $3.50 deposit on a growler.

Returned from Lake Placid with 43 beers. Had a little miscommunication with the customs guy. He thought I was saying 43 bottles of alcohol. :) All was good and we had a laugh. He said if it was 43 bottles of alcohol, it would have cost me a fortune. I think he may have added something about if I was...

Lake Placid beers have been....OK. This afternoon, I had three awesome beers at the Great Adirondack Brew pub; Whiteface Stout, John Brown Pale Ale, and Farmhouse Ale.

My question is, if QC is such an issue, how do the Black Creek beers turn out ok? It has been speculated (or stated?) on BT that the excellent Black Creek beers contracted at Trafalgar are not bottled there, and it may be bottling rather than brewing process that is accountable for the frequent Tra...

Newcastle Brown Ale - probably the first brown ale I ever had. Have not had one for a very, very, long time.

Mill Street Paradise IPA - first time.

Creemore Altbier - this has grown on me

But at the same time I would bet you that there are a ton of small brewers out there who are completely in it because they know craft beer is hot right now and want to try and grab some of that market share the same way the big guys are. Not that I can "prove" my point, or even back it up...

Having kids playing rep sports has really helped me pick up stuff at various LCBO's when the item hasn't been available locally. Took advantage of that Tuesday when my son had a game in Kitchener just a few blocks from the Alpine Centre store. Picked up two 4-packs. Halfway to the front, I realized ...

So, popped in to the LCBO for some various beers and noticed 24 rather waxy Tempest staring back at me from the shelf at Dundurn in Hamilton. Grabbed a couple. Uh oh. No shelf tags. Of course, there's no info and they can't be sold yet. However, the cashier was awesome, appologized profusely and of...
