Re: Breweries closing and/or restructuring and/or bought out

Skeleton Park acquires both Signal and Spearhead: https://thewhig.com/news/time-was-right-for-big-beer-business-moves This is another one where it surprises me a bit to see which brewery is doing the purchasing vs being purchased - I would have thought Spearhead was the bigger player. Will be inter...

Re: Shrinkflation

I suspect breweries are experimenting with ways of reducing raw material inputs to combat increased costs Amazing timing for you to make this comment. I just saw an article yesterday about this and there's even a word for it. Skimpflation. https://www.cbc.ca/news/business/skimpflation-shrinkflation...

Re: Shrinkflation

Carlesberg bought out Waterloo brewing and it's now being brewed there. Everything else out of that brewery is in a 473ml so it only makes sense to have Carlesberg move to that size as well. Matthew is right, of course. I hadn't thought of that when I had my little rant, so it's not really shrinkfl...

Re: Collective Arts hit with $500K tax bill!

This is sad.....and awkward. Regardless of how you feel about the tax law and whether it is fair and makes sense, it is what it is. So I'm not thinking CA has much leverage to get out of what is owed. And they really should have known better. Very curious about how this came about. The best I think ...

Shrinkflation

I'm sure you've all seen where companies reduce the size of an item instead of increasing the price. I hate the practice. Anyway, saw a 'new' listing for Carlesberg in the LCBO which seemed strange. Sure enough, they are moving from a 500 mL can to a 473 mL can. $3.00 for the 500, $2.95 for the 473....

Re: Best Ontario pilsners

There was a discussion about this a few years ago. Best Pilsner at the lcbo? Lots of support for Urquell at that time too, and a lengthy post by groulxsome I thought King Pilsner had morphed into Thornbury Pickup Truck No. 26 Pilsner. Did a little searching, and both appear to be available on-line d...

I remember Dragon's Breath....but it was more like 30 years ago. :(
Can't say I remember the beer much, but it's still one of my all-time favourite beer names.

Fine Balance

A colleague and beer buddy brought me 4 beers today that someone had gifted him. Two were from Fine Balance, which was a surprise since I do not recall ever hearing about them, and that doesn't happen often. I checked it out, and discovered they've been around since 2020 November. Good for them, tha...

I still use this too and find it very helpful, although the updates don't always seem as timely as they once were.

Re: LCBO.com

Ah ok. That's no good! I didn't realize that (don't use the app). Same here, I don't use the app, only the website, and it's the "Check Availability in All Stores" that I love and use all the time. And it's why I don't like the Beer Store website because they don't have a feature like this.

Re: LCBO.com

LCBO app/website leaves much to be desired. This quote comes from a different thread. There is always the possibility glitches with the website. I find odd things now and again, like making a purchase of something that doesn't show inventory in the store I'm at, or perhaps doesn't show at all, but ...

Just came to take a quick look and noticed at the bottom it said 65 users were logged on.

Wow!

Wait. Only 4 were registered and 61 were guests. Wow!
