Re: Non-Alcoholic Beer

Upside isn't the only retailer in the game, although probably the best in terms of selection. There are others, but I've personally also used: - https://www.designateddrinks.ca/ (who happen to have cans in a few variety stores around London) - https://www.neoni.ca/(physical location at the St Jacob...

Re: Shrinkflation

Queen & Beaver, a favourite of mine, still pour a proper 20 oz and charge $10-11. I know what you mean about sticker shock when you hit double digits, but then I was looking at going to the Rosedale Diner before they close for good and they're charging up to $12 for a mere 16 oz pour :o

Re: Winter Release ???

Thanks for the heads up- perhaps I'll hold off until I hear more. Over-carbed beer drives me crazy, especially in styles like this. Unless it's a Belgian where high carb is appropriate, I'm not a fan.

Re: Goose Island Black Friday & Bourbon County Stout

In fact going further I often most enjoy plain ol' imperial stouts even sans barrel-aging. OG Tempest is one of my favourite Ontario beers. Wellington Imperial Stout is still going strong it seems. Really liked it back in the day. Is it still as good as ever? Going back even further, I used to look...

Re: Non-Alcoholic Beer

Well you guys convinced me to give some NA beer a shot, particularly Guinness. Admittedly I've been dismissive of NA beers and the need to reduce my consumption, but I'm not getting any younger and it's probably not sustainable to drink nearly ever day anymore- even if it's only a couple. So the Gui...

Re: Goose Island Black Friday & Bourbon County Stout

The decline of the Bastard series has been disappointing. In the mid to late 2010s those were some of the best BA stouts going. Last I had was around 2020/2021 and I noticed a significant drop-off. It was watery, unbalanced. Hopefully it returns to form. I'd recommend trying Left Field's Blackburne ...

Re: Goose Island Black Friday & Bourbon County Stout

To each their own, but I think there are way better stouts, at a better price point, than BCBS. I had my first one (actually 3) last year and was underwhelmed for sure. I think I'm inclined to agree. I had my first and only from the 2020 release and while I did think it was excellent, I didn't feel...

Re: New Arrivals at LCBO & TBS

3 Fonteinen Oude Geuze Platinum Blend 375 mL Spendy, but cheaper than in adjacent jurisdictions. Not available online at the moment, but may be in stores as the Kriek Boon was in stores weeks before it was listed on the site. Via LCBO Beer Inventory Yes, saw this one on shelf today at Vic Park &...

Re: New Arrivals at LCBO & TBS

Just came across Weihenstephaner Hefeweissbier Dunkel at the LCBO (Vic Park & Ellesmere). Didn't realize it was showing up, haven't had it in a while. One of my all time favourite dark wheat beers. They had some Paulaner Weissbier Dunkel too, although I think I recall seeing that one mentioned h...

Re: Talk or Action?

The article is paywalled, so the answer might be in there, but I thought it was just the LCBO who don't sell by the case. I've bought cases of beer at a discount direct from breweries before; Great Lakes sells a number of their beers at a case discount through their retail and online stores for ins...

Re: Shrinkflation

Curious if anyone else finds themselves feeling similarly about a lot of the stuff being released today; and regular items for that matter. Yes, absolutely! Definitely in the one-off/seasonal categories, I've noticed lighter/thinner beers and often wondered if it had more to do with costs than with...

Re: Shrinkflation

I suspect breweries are experimenting with ways of reducing raw material inputs to combat increased costs Amazing timing for you to make this comment. I just saw an article yesterday about this and there's even a word for it. Skimpflation. https://www.cbc.ca/news/business/skimpflation-shrinkflation...

Re: Shrinkflation

On the topic of shrinkflation but in a somewhat different way, my perception is that beers are getting worse. Not bad per se, but I'm trying more and more that just seem to be a little lacking in body, lacking in hops or malt; just flatter overall. Collective's new TIPA (Hot Fuzz) for instance was s...

Re: New Arrivals at LCBO & TBS

Westmalle pack out in the wild too now. Based on what you're getting for the prices this year, I'll probably be skipping most. The Beyond the Pale pack is especially out to lunch on pricing; 17 bucks for 3 x 355 ml of semi-regularly produced beers (Darkness, Darkerness, and Dark & Picante). I ge...
