Re: Coming Soon to the LCBO

This was (is) one of the best deals at the LCBO imo. $11.95 for these makes them all $3 each, an awesome price for Tempest, which is excellent. Starke is great and Bomeshaker and Space Invader were fresh, and since I still like West Coast bitter IPAs, these were quite enjoyable... nice to revisit. ...

Avec Les Bons Voeux Brasserie Dupont 2016 - 375ml - guys, this is developing fantastically. If you squirrelled away extra bottles you will be handsomely rewarded for your diligent cellaring habits. I have a 1.5 l magnum bottle from 2015 of Voeux that I'm confident will be great for holiday sharing ...

Re: Ontario brewed Tripels...

There are a lot of beers I've had, where I wonder what the base beer would taste like...what a fun beer tasting that could be too. Try a bunch of base beers, then try their amped up versions. Considering how difficult it seems for anyone to do a good base tripel in Ontario, I guess this is a safer ...

Re: Ontario brewed Tripels...

So MERIT has added to the list of ON brewed experimental tripels with By and By. It's brewed with wine skins and lees. What is the obsession with these types of adjuncts with this style? Would be great to see more tripels that stand on their own. Haven't you heard, you need a minimum two adjuncts t...

Re: Black Lab Brewery opening in East Toronto this fall

I agree with Gedge's review above based on my Sunday visit, rather than the person who suddenly appeared after him and has just posted the 1 time with a lot of love for this place. I would give it a year and see if I would visit again. Beerinthesix turned up on RateBeer as well and left glowing, 5 ...

Re: Winter Seasonal Craft Beer Release 2018/19

Sadly for how far they've come I still feel like beer is treated like second class by the LCBO. 1st class -> wine 2nd class -> spirits 3rd class -> beer check the number of SKUs listed in any given bi-weekly "vintages" release Good point, I lumped wine/spirits together as first; wine is d...

Re: Winter Seasonal Craft Beer Release 2018/19

My wife’s cousin works at the LCBO. I know from him that there were many of the German calendars leftover after Christmas last year. I got one on Feb 1 for about 40% original price if I remember correctly. His store couldn’t wait to get rid of them. Not surprised they aren’t back. Yet from my recol...

That's almost exactly how I felt about IPA No. 5 to be honest, although I seemed to be alone in not loving it.

Re: Worst Ontario Craft Breweries

If I’m honest, I’d say that if I never had another glass of beer from 80% of Ontario breweries I wouldn’t complain. Over the last couple of years, I’ve tended to stick to 6-8 local breweries for 95% of the local stuff I drink. This I definitely agree with. A large number of local breweries aren't n...

Re: Worst Ontario Craft Breweries

Definitely file Trafalgar and Old Credit under the "how do they still exist?" category. Overall though I feel there's just so much middling, unremarkable beer in Ontario. Whether it's the trend chasers looking to capitalize on something popular, or the run-of-the-mill small town breweries ...

Re: Coming Soon to the LCBO

There is a sub market for sweet stuff. AT Merit which does a bunch of sweets, even the IPA is tasting sweet I don't mind sweet beers, and particularly like milk stouts, but it's the over-the-top flavourings that are off-putting for me. Creme de menthe and chocolate cheesecake sound especially gross...

Re: Coming Soon to the LCBO

Honestly those flavours sound disgusting. This trend of overly flavoured beer and "pastry stouts" just isn't for me.
