Tried the Northern Edelbrau on the weekend. When I asked for it at the beer store (near Jane and Dundas in Toronto), the clerk said it was the first one he'd sold this year! I joked that it must be pretty stale, but he quickly added that they "rotate" their old stock. Not sure where they r...

Though maybe not in the same league as Scotch Irish, but something I like to pick up once in a while, is the Magnotta IPA (I also like their Altbier). And it also has a good pricetag!

Ten Feet Tall

Over the weekend, friends introduced me to Ten Feet Tall, an interesting Toronto bar/restaurant with a very nice tap selection. Located at 1381 Danforth Ave. (east of Greenwood), its a neat space with great food. From my recollection (which can vary considerably), they had the following on tap: Cree...

I think the same thing applies to Ontario wineries. They often have the same wine (and typically many others not available at the LCBO) at the same price, but recoup more per bottle.

Now, if only breweries could be as "visitor friendly" as some Niagara wineries....

If you're in the Bloor West area of Toronto, you can try the Erdinger heffweizen at the Dark Horse. Alternately, the Wood House just down the street on Bloor has Hacker (lager and weisse) on tap as well as fine snitzels!

Transition Beer?

What beer(s) would you suggest to friends that are just starting to expand their beer horizon (i.e. the type that consider Rickard's Red or Keith's exotic)? When hosting parties, I always try to keep something like Wellington Arkell Best Bitter or King Pilsner on hand, but many keep asking for the K...

I would also include the following as pretty good beer:
1) Hockley Valley Dark
2) King Premium Pilsner
3) Magnotta IPA (good value for the dollar).

I was at Volo on Saturday and can confirm that they were selling the trio for beer on tap. Also, check out C'est What for their Spring Festival of Small Breweries on April 15. All samples are a buck!

I've followed most threads on Bartowel for a while now, however this is my first post. Greetings to all. I must admit that I was pleasantly surprised to see the Sleeman Porter at the LCBO on Friday. I've had 2 of them so far and found them pretty good. I've been drinking a lot of the St. Ambroise Oa...
