Re: Great Lakes

666 Devil's Pale Ale has made a return at the brewery only. Was really hoping for an LCBO release, but no luck this time. Always enjoyed it as it was pretty unique in that it mixed up the English/American styles and had a darkness nearing brown ale territory. A nice hybrid.

Re: Cask Days 2017

First time attending in 4 or 5 years, and I remember why I stopped going. It's just too crowded now. I guess Saturday is the new Sunday, half the beers were gone by Session 3. I love the Brick Works and still enjoy the event in the sense that it's quite unique compared to other beer fests, but I ca...

Re: Am I remembering correctly...?

I'd agree that it's probably a relative thing with the increase in Ontario made options, but there are definitely some Euro beers that haven't made an appearance in years. Weihenstephaner dunkel is a notable one in my books; German dunkelweizens in general are increasingly hard to find apart from Er...

Re: New Arrivals at LCBO & TBS

The ESB name is owned by Fuller's, so I wonder if they're going after breweries marketing anything as "extra special bitter". Kind of like Moosehead going after anyone and everyone using Moose imagery in their branding. Ratebeer category. Upon further research it looks like the trademark ...

Re: New Arrivals at LCBO & TBS

Noticed a new can in the LCBO today for Nickel Brook Equilibrium . It has previously been billed as an Extra Special Bitter . It's now called an English-Style Ale . I don't know if there is any change to the beer itself; I'm guessing not. Their website has not been updated with this change. The ESB...

Re: What're you drinking right now?

It really grew on me as I drank more of it. The first few sips weren't what I expected, but it really seemed to evolve nicely as it warmed up a bit too. Another bitter I almost forgot about is Henderson's Best, I've been buying it a lot since they started canning it. It's up there with Equilibrium ...

Re: What're you drinking right now?

Chiming in as another ESB fan, I really enjoyed St. Mary Axe Canadian Best Bitter if you happen to come across any. I grabbed a can of this and wasn't really a fan tbh. I'll have to try one more before making a final decision though as I usually like to have something at least 2 times before ruling...

Re: What're you drinking right now?

I'm a sucker for a good bitter too! My go-to options are a couple of local ESBs - Collingwood's King Post and Nickelbrook's Equilibrium. They're always in stock at my local grocery store, and manage to somehow find their way into the cart on a regular basis. Thanks for the recos. For some reason I ...

Re: Misplaced discussion topic

I've immediately changed my mind after cranking another Aromatherapy here and it's better than the clutch that came before in this particular case but fuck $4.50 still. Off topic, as this has nothing to do with discussing the annoyances or virtues of the LCBO itself. :D But... What are people payin...

Did this used to be known as Fireside ESB?
Yup. Re-branded due to a complaint from some winery.
Right, because there's a big risk that someone will confuse an ESB with wine. Seems a bit excessive.

Re: New Arrivals at LCBO & TBS

GRANITE BREWERY GALACTIC PALE ALE LCBO 526467 | 473 mL can $3.50 for a meh beer, not too much of a ripoff it you want to check a box but I'll pass. Thanks for the info though. Yeah, I'm a bit disappointed they didn't can one of the more traditional offerings that they're better at. The best bitter ...

Noticed a few new beers that I don't recall reading about in the upcoming release lists: Sleeping Giant Skull Rock Stout: http://www.lcbo.com/lcbo/product/sleeping-giant-skull-rock-stout/482265#.Wc7ihBNSyV4 Junction Road Black Lager: http://www.lcbo.com/lcbo/product/junction-road-black-lager/523720#...

Re: What're you drinking right now?

Amsterdam Autumn Hop Harvest Ale - Canned on Sept 20. This is good, but not as good I a remember. I remember it tasting like as hoppy as an IPA, but this is definitely and APA. Perhaps it's faded in my mind due to the higher quality hoppy ales we can get around here now. Still, very much worth pick...

Re: spectrum now missing its low end

I had their Kellerbier at Bar Hop last night... I hope they continue to tune this one up... Ahh the Momiji. Will have to see what's in cans at the shop right now. ... seems like solid sessionable beers are what Bim is aiming for. Albeit, served in smaller glasses that are normally associated with s...
