Chanzy Les Fortunés Bourgogne 2018 Red

Maison Chanzy Les Fortunés Bourgogne Pinot Noir 2018 This is a straightforward yet solid Pinot Noir red from Burgundy France that more or less provides what it's expected to - in this case a little earthy forest floor, herby dryness and beetroot to set off the tart cherry-berry and the racy acidity...

What're you Konxing back right now?

I had a friend mention that he's found a lot of the Omnipollo and Mikkeller stuff coming out of Brunswick to have a sort of papery oxidized note.... Regarding the KONX, I was lucky enough to not have your experience.... Yes that very light cardboardy oxidized thing was there. Just enough to be a li...

Re: What're you linking?

Dang, I just ordered a bunch from Godspeed and I guess Baby Svetly wasn't out yet! I'll have to try it someday. I had the Konx from the LCBO and thought it was one of the best non-alcs I've had...maybe it was a batch thing? Also, I thought it was lower ABV than that, more like 0.3% far as I can tel...

What're you lightly drinking?

Had a few low-ABV brews... the Godspeed Draught-lager style "Baby Svetly" (1.5%) is pretty acceptable for a crushable quaff, and the Omnipollo KONX (0.3%) tastes almost like a good light sour pale but something in the taste goes very wrong, like it's spoiled or infected. I'm not expecting ...

Re: What're you drinking right now?

Collective Arts Matter Of Fact Some of you will sneer at the comparative lightness of body of this decently dry-hopped Blonde but it's pretty nice as a moderate session ale close to an Ordinary Bitter in style. If it were a little lower in ABV that would be great too (4.9%) https://collectiveartsbr...

Château Biré 2016 Merlot-focused Bordeaux

Château Biré 2016 Merlot/Cabernet Sauvignon/Cabernet Franc A nice kind of St-Emillion-style Bordeaux in the super value range ($16.) Has classic style. Red and black fruit and touches of wild herbals and slight wool. The cherry carries long and the tannins are just pleasantly dry in feel. https://i...

Beaumirail Vacqueyras 2017 S. Rhone

Beaumirail Vacqueyras 2017 Grenache/Syrah/Mourvèdre This little beauty from the Southern Rhone shines with character. Besides the dark berries, which lend sweetness there is a solid aroma and taste of a 'savory' element that is leather, herbs and (to me) a bit of saltiness. Good dry tannins but not...

Château des Landes Cuvée Prestige 2016

Château des Landes Cuvée Prestige 2016

Decent Bordeaux, it's OK. It has some aroma going on with cassis cranberry and cedar. Taste is tart and tannic-dry with red berries, blackberry, black plum and cranberry and cassis and green herbs, some forest floor. Touch of oak vanillin.

Château d'Anglès Classique La Clape GSM 2018

Château d'Anglès Classique La Clape Syrah/Grenache/Mourvèdre blend 2018 This is a juicy and tasty Rhone-blend red with berry acidity, tealike dryness and some nice campfire in the aromas and finish. Nice wild herbals and dark florals. A different style of wine, showing off natural character and com...

Re: Orval the hills and far away...

Not to dip our toes into other importers' beer, but... unsure about your claim of Chimay dumbing down the formula. We haven't noticed any changes over the years (we stick to Blue and tend to buy it to cellar for 5-10 years). It's still a fine brewer. My understanding is their methods changed : Unti...

Cantina del Nebbiolo Barbaresco 2016

Cantina del Nebbiolo Barbaresco 2016 I love Nebbiolo. Lots of berry-cherry and tartness, good tannins... woody herbals and liquorice, eucalyptus, and a suggestion of tar. Lots of character and styl, acidic structure. * As it opens up I'm getting the olive and cedar. * More lithe than the Cantina de...

Carmes de Rieussec 2015 Sauternes

Carmes de Rieussec 2015 Sauternes Bordeaux This is a Bordeaux Blanc that's famously both sweet and packed with a lot of flavor - delicate floral honey, mango-pineapple jam, dried apricot, honeysuckle, candy citrus and some petrol, maybe coconut. A little countering dryness and acidity. This is a wi...

Cantina del Nebbiolo Barbaresco 2016

Cantina del Nebbiolo Barbaresco 2016 Well isn't this nice, Barbaresco Red from Piedmont, IT. Tightly-wound acid-cherry-berry fruit with good tannic edge and bit of cider-like acidity. Some tar and herbals. licorice, earth but a hit of that acid freshness. It's not a giveaway for $30 but it's a soli...

Re: Orval the hills and far away...

This batch didn't strike me a especially different. But if memory serves, we wouldn't normally see Orval quite so fresh. More Brett is always a good thing, let's hope it builds up to a sweet spot in the coming months. (And we see more batches). My favorite Orval is most the bright, dry and firm 'fr...
