Storewatch: good LCBO's for Belgians, etc.

I noticed the Brimley / Danforth store has WAY more stock in February than most stores I've seen - lots of Chimay, Orval, DFH R'd and a bunch of other goodies that seem to have dried up elsewhere. Apparently this part of Scarborough is Steelback country, ha ha ha. Just letting you know. Any other &q...

Re: The Beer Drinking Mentality

It is interesting to see that Corona has set a new record for sales in the US ... your basic mainstream bottle baby is swinging over from Bud/Ex/Blue to the ultimate in image/non-flavour. Strangely, this seems to make sense to me. It does make sense - people are voting with their taste, ie. now the...

I was just speaking to a couple who usually buy "buck-a-beer" Lakeport stuff purely for budget reasons.

Why not just drink better and half as often?

Well I've got one to top the list. Met a group of friends in a club in Yorkville and ordered a bottle of Molson Dry (Not by choice) and the bartender looked me in the eye and with a straight face said, "that will be $8.50". Colin that's horrible. No sir. That's a "waste disposa...

for the most part, prices of imported wines and specialty beers in Ontario would be the envy of anyone living in a free enterprise state in the U.S.. Most of the tax on Canadian beer is added before it gets to the store in the form of excise taxes that the brewer pays directly to the government. I ...

Well, I'm a hypocrite because what I like about Belgians, Can/US craft beers, etc is their (often) sheer idiosyncracy. I suppose I should at least try the XO, because this board can't just become a lot of people shouting the same opinion. Enough of that on RateBeer (no offense! :D I lurk there too.)

That would be a really time-shifted taste comparison, but I'll try - just to see if the canned Urquell evokes a soft summer night on the Charles Bridge... man the taste of that beer fresh is tied to incredible memories, so we'll see.

Hidden Gems at Beer Store

I usually glaze over at that stupid wall display, but today I noticed Brick Bock and Andechs Hell, two beers I'd never noticed (at least one is allegedly good.)

What are good ones that people miss? Do the upper row ones skunkify because they're impossible to read?

I want to add we're lucky at least the LCBO gets things to us fast sometimes and for cheap. If and when they get it.

While I love the beautiful green bottle, Urquell seems to not travel well; it may still be 'good' here, but it's just so perfect in the CZ. Floral, amazing hoppiness, no 'green' harshness. I will try the can, from a fresh high-turnover source like Cooper St. I agree Prague's Staropramen is well wort...

Beer - expensive when I leave the house?

We should all do more research and figure out what is different about drinking beer in bars than at home.

I will report back on this.

.As odd as this sounds, I would recommend going as early in the morning as you can, so there's nobody else there.. That's great advice for of all Europe - find the early market, the midnight Cathedral, the far side of Montmartre in spring - places and times where you "have it all to yourself.&...
