A couple of weeks ago I dined at Dipamo's BBQ (Eglinton & Avenue). A decent place, with lots of meat and great baked beans and chips.

Anyway, they had on tap (as they claimed) "Upper Canada Yellow Snow", which they described as an amber beer. It wasn't necessarily anything spectacular, but I'd never heard of it. Has anyone? I wonder if they just renamed one of their other beers.

Why would anyone name a beer after yellow snow? Yeah, let's drink urine. Are you sure the restaurant wasn't just trying to be cute? Name could very well be appropriate though.

Rogue makes a Pale Ale called Yellow Snow. And from most accounts, it really does look like urine:

What a coincidence...I just took samples of Rogue Yellow Snow to the LCBO yesterday...it is a pale ale but the brewery describes the colour as "saffron" which is much nicer sounding than urine....and an interesting twist is that the beer is flavoured with juniper berries.

One other thing, the name of the beer obviously had nothing to do with the colour of the beer...it has to do with the resulting discharge...

Actually, I think it's quite funny and for those of you who are probably too young too remember, it's actually based upon a song by the late, great Frank Zappa that song being "Watch our where the huskies go, don't you eat that yellow snow."

There is an ale in the UK called "Dog's Bollocks"(Dog's Testicles). I haven't tried it yet, put the name wouldn't put me off. Wonder if its a Cream Ale...(couldn't resist!)
