Well, it was really good for the first few years, is my recollection. As I said, though, the few I have left have not really showed any staying power and have faded. Edit: though I just saw the comment above - maybe the bottle I opened recently was an aberration. Will try another; I think I have one or two left.
It would be interesting to compare it, at its peak, to some of the excellent Impy stouts now coming out from Bellwoods, Great Lakes and Nickel Brook. It was such a novelty at the time, with the added fun of taking delivery out of Perry's trunk and getting the little certificate of authenticity that he made up, that it's hard to objectively remember just how good the beer was. For me, anyway.

1) At Volo, a half pint of its Eastside IPA. This beer, while still an APA in my view, has a richer malt sweetness than many IPAs and just goes down well. This was the draft (chilled, fizzy) vs. draught (hand pump) version sometimes available. However, it was fairly unfiltered and full of flavour.
2) A special edition cask IPA from Six Pints Brewing on Victoria Street. This is their regular IPA, primed and dry-hopped with Chinook and served cask-conditioned. I was told it is kept at room temperature for about three weeks before tapping. The spiled cask sits on the counter with a jacket to keep cool and is drawn by a hand-turned valve, what they called thumb-taps in England. This impressed a lot, it was much better than the regular IPA with a rounded, appetizing taste and went down like nobody's business. Even a big new beer like their Baltic Porter paled before this emblematic cask pale ale, IMO.

I tried that yesterday. If anyone is in the neighbourhood it's worth stopping in for.G.M. Gillman wrote:2) A special edition cask IPA from Six Pints Brewing on Victoria Street. Last night,
Bellwoods Grognard
Collective Arts Rhyme & Reason
Trois Mousquetaires Gose
Deschutes Black Butte
Been a long time since I had the BB, but was a little let down with it, not much roast complexity to it, a little over carbed and thin in the body. Not bad, but still highlighting my desire for a regularly available, kickass, straight-up porter.
